Call me Ted artwork relegated 12:50 - Oct 22 with 8270 views | bugblatter | You may have noticed that the excellent Call me Ted artwork was relegated to a gatefold at the back of the programme vs Everton. It was thought this was to do with it being the "No room for Racism" fixture, I wrote to the club to clarify. Turns out the sponsors didn't like them and they won't be on the cover again. In my opinion having their logo on an innovative cover design has far more value than appearing on a generic, standard design. Once again money talks (but has no taste). #dontrelegateted

Call me Ted artwork relegated on 12:57 - Oct 22 with 4792 views | The_Flashing_Smile | That's a shame, but as someone who works in advertising I can tell you brands are VERY protective of their logos and other brand assets, to the point where they won't let you even slightly alter them even in an advertising campaign that's for their benefit. So I can see why they wouldn't agree to illustrated versions. At the end of the day advertising revenue far outweighs programme sales.

Call me Ted artwork relegated on 12:58 - Oct 22 with 4779 views | Hipsterectomy | This reminds me of players getting booked for removing their shirt during celebrations. I read that was for a breach of sponsorship (e.g. the photos won't show the player wearing the club shirt with different sponsors on)

The logos are presented no differently on the illustrated versions though?? https://shop.itfc.co.uk/collections/matchday-programmes

Call me Ted artwork relegated on 13:00 - Oct 22 with 4721 views | Meadowlark | That's a pretty crap response. I thought the programmes looked great, and unique to our club. Well done, for your efforts, and shame about the typical corporate response. I thought we were better than that now.

Fair enough.... but which sponsors has it impacted? Is it just Umbro and Ed Sheeran?

Ah, true! Well I dunno then. Maybe the OP should send an email back and say, "But the logos aren't illustrated!" Or is it that the covers were too good and the sponsors boring logos weren't getting noticed, so they wanted more boring covers?!?

I wonder if they prefer a 'boring' front cover, as the customers eye isn't as distracted?

I doubt Ed would complain but maybe Umbro did (as they're illustrated on the Dalian Atkinson one)?

I agree, I def don't think Ed would have an issue.

Call me Ted artwork relegated on 13:11 - Oct 22 with 4552 views | bugblatter | Perhaps they should just remove them all from the covers. Just like Brighton have…
Call me Ted artwork relegated on 13:15 - Oct 22 with 4482 views | shaunous | This is absolute nonsense. I definitely spent a bit of time appreciating the the front cover of the first three programmes (whilst noting the sponsors subconsciously) compared to the latest version which features the standard match photo of Ali Al-Hamadi. It shouldn't annoy me, but it does. I was hoping there would be a nice set of the Call Me Ted FRONT covers to go through the end of the season.

That was my theory too. It is as though you find something new each time you look at it given the detail that there is.
Call me Ted artwork relegated on 13:35 - Oct 22 with 4248 views | soupytwist | That explanation doesn't wash. Going by the images on https://shop.itfc.co.uk/collections/matchday-programmes the logos are not represented in a materially different way on the Nice/Dusseldorf/Everton ones compared to the Call Me Ted artwork covers. If Umbro are one of the sponsors objecting perhaps they should consider whether it's a good idea to have a different version of the logo among the sponsors compared to that which appears on the shirt Al-Hamadi is wearing in the photo. The Fulham programme doesn't have a match sponsors logo on, the others do. Was there a match sponsor for that game? If there was and it isn't shown as it should have been, that's the club's mistake surely? As someone who works in a marketing-adjacent job I'd be delighted to see my company's logo alongside such distinctive artwork.

The last one is the worst for obscuring the logos.

Yup - University of Suffolk gets a raw deal with the white logo overlaid on Al-Hamadi's yellow boots.

Just think about the Villa one and you have your corporate association answer to what has happened IMHO.

Call me Ted artwork relegated on 13:41 - Oct 22 with 4156 views | HungryLikeTheWoolf | Such a shame, couldn't they have put the artwork in a border and the sponsors just outside this as a compromise? Which confirms all the logo stuff is just a load of flannel. Big brands don't want to be associated with 'controversial' stuff like death by police force.

So Umbro didn't like the illustrated version of their logo which appears on the shirt the child is wearing on the Liverpool game cover, which is the logo that actually appears on shirts at the moment but not the one Umbro use as their corporate identity in the list of sponsors. Nor did they like the somewhat stylised version that appears on the Villa half of Dalian Atkinson's shirt in the picture on the Villa programme even though that's nearer to the one they use as their corporate identity in the list of sponsors. They need to sort out where they stand on their corporate identity. If they'd been unhappy with their logo appearing in the picture because of the terrible circumstances of Dalian's death I could understand it. I wouldn't agree, but I'd understand. Either way, someone in the club's comms/marketing department probably thought that this would all be OK without thinking through the possible implications, shame.
