Call me Ted artwork relegated 12:50 - Oct 22 with 8423 views | bugblatter | You may have noticed that the excellent Call me Ted artwork was relegated to a gatefold at the back of the programme vs Everton. It was thought this was to do with it being the "No room for Racism" fixture, I wrote to the club to clarify. Turns out the sponsors didn't like them and they won't be on the cover again. In my opinion having their logo on an innovative cover design has far more value than appearing on a generic, standard design. Once again money talks (but has no taste). #dontrelegateted

Call me Ted artwork relegated on 13:47 - Oct 22 by soupytwist | So Umbro didn't like the illustrated version of their logo which appears on the shirt the child is wearing on the Liverpool game cover, which is the logo that actually appears on shirts at the moment but not the one Umbro use as their corporate identity in the list of sponsors. Nor did they like the somewhat stylised version that appears on the Villa half of Dalian Atkinson's shirt in the picture on the Villa programme even though that's nearer to the one they use as their corporate identity in the list of sponsors. They need to sort out where they stand on their corporate identity. If they'd been unhappy with their logo appearing in the picture because of the terrible circumstances of Dalian's death I could understand it. I wouldn't agree, but I'd understand. Either way, someone in the club's comms/marketing department probably thought that this would all be OK without thinking through the possible implications, shame. |
Thinking about it that is 2 of 3 Ted programmes that referenced death by police if you think about it!

Call me Ted artwork relegated on 14:05 - Oct 22 with 1934 views | Chris_ITFC | Ironically, this makes the programme less worth buying / less collectible and makes it FAR LESS worth spending more than a second looking at the front cover… So those sponsors are getting far less bang for their buck. Ridiculous, corporate nonsense, squeezing some very welcome personality out of something so positive and unique to the Club.

Indeed, assuming the given reason is true. I've not bought a programme in years but I was tempted to buy the whole lot just because the covers were so great and unique. I won't be bothering now.

So what you’re saying is, Umbro didn’t like the Umbro logo that Umbro designed to put on their Umbro shirts being displayed on a picture of their Umbro shirts on the programme of the Club they sponsor?

You'd think they would quite like their brand to be relatable to people through interesting and quirky artwork but what do I know. I never understood adverts urging me to use electricity - as if I'd never thought of it.

Except if worn by a player e.g. Ali Al-Hamidi Stuff Umbro, they won't be supplying our shirts next year anyway.

Call me Ted artwork relegated on 15:28 - Oct 22 with 1685 views | benrhyddingblue | What a bizarre argument. I didn’t even notice the sponsors on Saturday’s programme as I thought the cover was dull (no offence meant towards Ali Al-Hamedi) compared with the previous ones and didn’t pay it any attention. The opposite being the case for the previous programmes.
Call me Ted artwork relegated on 15:41 - Oct 22 with 1638 views | bsw72 | I am wondering whether the cover featuring Dalian Atkinson may have upset some people who complained . . . either way I am really disappointed with the club on this, and in true British sense will be writing a strongly worded email.

Completely counterproductive by Umbro, the silly billies. They could have quietly enjoyed the spin-off incidental positives from a brilliant and unique initiative, but now I imagine many Town fans will now select rivals’ products rather than Umbro’s if there’s a choice.

Can’t imagine anyone would complain given what he meant to fans. What would the complaint be exactly that would make sense?

Spot on flash. I noticed you could start buying them online for home delivery. No idea how long that's been in place. Bur anyways. Was interested in this seasons ones as very different to the norm. Defo won't bother now

What he meant to us as fans is very different to what other groups / individuals may feel, and therefore associate that back to any sponsors associated with that cover. I really hope it is not the case but cannot help but think it may have been a factor, it's not just ITFC/Villa fans that see the artwork . . . I admit thought to myself how proud I was that the club had produced a program with him on the cover, and that it was quite a brave decision knowing how people seem to seek reasons to get offended by everything these days.

Yes, it's as if you can't always just rely on the police's version of events and sometimes that has to be tested in the courts.
