Minutes silence - what on earth is going on? 17:37 - Nov 9 with 2446 viewsPlums

People seem to have started applauding at the end of the Last Post for some reason. It happened at the rugby and now Brighton v Man City. At the latter, they didn't even have a minutes silence because people started clapping and cheering, despite saying they were going to.

I see lots of enamel badges and club crests etc. but people seem to have forgotten the need for an act of remembrance and reflection. Very sad.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Happened at PR last week.

It's just communication.

Yep, surprised more people didn't complain like last time, but I guess there were bigger issues to vent about.

All it needs is a rewording of the stadium announcement, the ref will blow their whistle to signify the start of the moment of silence after the last post has played.and the whistle will blow again when it's finished

But that would still probably be too difficult for some.

A very few years ago, Town actually tried that. A very, very clear message about what was required, just as the commemorations started. It didn't work, sadly.

Wasn’t there a big confusion at Millwall away at this time of year a few years back when nobody knew what was actually going on?

This may be against tradition, but would it make more sense to have the minute's silence leading into the Last Post?

I remember there being ones that were very well observed previously… has last post always been before the silence, or has the silence ever been to begin with, and then the bugle to mark the end of it?

I was at the Swansea.com with my lad earlier in the week for the Watford game. It was immaculately observed. I was half expecting people to start applauding early based on what happened with us last week.

Most refs now you have to check with VAR it was time to blow the whistle and then still manage to feck it up

Shame the authorities and powers that be can't get it together to remember those who gave everything for us to be here.

Perhaps my memory is failing, but I think it used ot be that the silence would take place, and the last post would play at the end such that the end of the last post was the end of the silence anyway. I was surprised when it started almost immediately at the start of the silence.

I think people are mixing up the Last Post and Reveille. Here's the order

45 minutes in, two minutes silence starts.
47 minutes in, the buglers play The Last Post. (Without The Rouse)
