As Muric establishes himself as the Ipswich No 1 - not without alarms - what of last season’s hero Hladky. That could have been him. And yet at Burnley he has played in just one League match when Trafford was injured - and one League Cup game, both in August. What would he be thinking now? And where would we be had he stayed? Better or worse? Whoever was advising him I hope they’ve been fired.

He wasn't good enough for this league. If you see highlights of Tottenham Muric catchs so many crosses makes difficult saves look easy and is way ahead of Hladky. Hladky would have been back up here.

It wasn't about whether he was no 1 or no 2 or no 3..or what League he was playing in .it was about getting a two year deal on good money..he doesn't have long left in his career. So he.needs a nest egg ti set him up for retirement. So burnley offered him that and probably no guarantee of been no 1 ..which is fine with haladky..

Seems like he has chosen being a backup keeper in the Championship over being backup in the PL which on the face of it is not a rational decision.

But as discussed - we don't know how long a contract he was offered or for what money, which may well have been the decisive factors.

Depends on the commercial outcome. If he got a massive contract it's fine?

We had a load of leverage and he was obviously not going to be No1. So he was ultimately disposable. He then went public that he was being mugged off.

I'm not sure you can say he was a hero last season. Imo he was an obvious weakness. Opinions game though.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Don't think he has chosen being back up Burnley though I think he knew he wouldn't be first choice here in the Prem. He's just go the best move for him he could (Burnley probably offered him the most but equally its a good club and he probably felt he had a decent shout of being number 1 without guarantee. The expectation from a lot of Burnley fans was that Trafford would also be sold and was probably pushing for a move. May still happen in Jan.

For me Hladky earned himself great status and a place in our history. But he always felt like a number 2 playing out of his skin for me. Of course that made him a number 1 (semantics) but I think McKenna was always likely to make a change (I'd argue even if we didn't go up which I know will be controversial).

Muric was 25 when we signed him. A baby for a keeper. Will make more mistakes. But his ability/ceiling for me is way higher than Hladky. Against controversially I'm more comfortable with Walton as a number 2.

Poll: Who do we think McKenna (not you) will partner Greaves with ?

He would have been backup here, but he'd have played the opener against Liverpool and a cup game, which is just as much as he's getting anyway. Wouldn't it be better to get that playing time in the Premier League?

It's not professionally, however, I'd imagine the offer from Burnley was far more lucrative than ours, and at his age it's all about cashing in on last season's good form, can't blame him really as he was knocking about in Scotland and League 2 for a long time.

Also, I never felt he was Mckenna's first choice keeper, as others have allured to, his commanding of the box was one of his weaker points.

…so instead of being back up in the prem, he’s back up in the Championship. What’s your point? It was a better move for him!?

It could well be. At his age it will have most likely come down to the value of the deal.

One year as PL backup at Town for £20k a week will be worth less than two years as Champ backup at Burnley on, say, £12k a week.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I'm pretty sure this was cleared up by Ashton in the I/V with McKenna a couple of weeks ago.

Hladky wanted to be No1 and that was never on the table, I suspect that's why Walton got a new contract, and we moved on from Hladky. The fact he's ended up as No2. at Burnley suggests they were expecting Trafford to move on in the window, and no bid came in.

Doubt we offered him as much as that tbh, given he was surplus to requirements really - when we consider a new no. 1 was always the summer target, Walton is younger and happy to stay, and we seem happy to keep Slicker in the setup. My guess is Hladky's earning roughly the same at Burnley per week than he'd have received here (wouldn't shock me if he's earning more).

Not seen it mentioned - as a free agent he would've got a sizeable signing on fee by moving

He went where the money was - like the entire Ipswich team. I quite admire him for clearing off at the very moment his manager was too busy talking to other clubs to be concerned about having a goalie.

The impression I got was that Ipswich didn't see signing him as a priority.

And this was how TWTD reported his departure.

"The Czech had been in discussions with the club regarding new terms since January and had said on a number of occasions that he wants to stay at Portman Road.

However, he and his representatives were unable to agree a new deal with his current contract up yesterday."

As it is, he left Ipswich on 1 July and signed for Burnley on 19 July.

His choice I suppose. Slicker must be closing in on being No.2 here. Think Walton may move on in the Summer.
