Bad footballer statues part 647 on 19:33 - Nov 18 with 1859 views | Pique | I've often thought this, we are very lucky. Compare our Bobby Robson one to Newcastle's, which looks ridiculous (although how they have the brass neck to put up a statue of him I'll never know).

Seriously, what is going on with that hand/sleeve/pocket situation? Just awful. Whilst I do feel that Beattie's face on his looks a bit like Allan Hunter's, that and our other two statues are as good as any you will see and we are privileged to have such a fine sculptor as a supporter.

Agreed. That Newcastle one doesn't even look like Bobby, it looks more like Ernie Wise.

NUFC to sculpter: "Can you make a statue of Sir Bobby Robson for us?" Sculpter: "I'm afraid I can't do hands" NUFC: "How about you just make it look like he has them both in his pockets?" Sculpter: "OK"

That Bobby Robson statue is dreadful. It ought to have a person behind it him booting him up the rear end as they threw him out. The Beattie statue is spoiled by the moustache. If you see the image it’s taken from, the picture was on the front of Shoot and was taken in 1976 when Beattie was younger. Without the moustache it’d be perfect. https://morningstaronline.co.uk/article/s/immortalising-the-beat The other two statues are brilliant. The plinths need a good clean and hopefully they’ll be moved to somewhere better if the ground is upgraded.

Now the area is more opened up around the SAR Stand, wouldn't it make sense to more Sir Alf's statue there and put Sir Bobby's around the SBR Stand?

When Ipswich Village was being considered, I think the plan was something along those lines?

Bad footballer statues part 647 on 19:54 - Nov 19 with 949 views | giant_stow | Just to add a bit of local knowledge, The Peter May Sports centre is a quiet for-locals place, also used for cricket, and basically the poor neighbour to Arsenal's next door Hale End training centre. Its so low key, even I've played there.

I am still furious about the way the misappropriated him as some sort of Newcastle legend. He was there, what? 4 years. In the twilight of his carrer. And they hounded him out. [Post edited 19 Nov 2024 20:25]

Quite. You do wonder what on earth they put on the plaque. Maybe 'He was with us for four seasons, did pretty well, then we sacked him'. One of the more ridiculous statues in English football, both aesthetically and representationally (and that's no reflection on Bobby).
