Hadn't initially occurred to me that Sunday falls into this bracket but it's essentially a night game.
It made me think of some of the best 'under the lights' games we've seen at PR in the last few years, so I thought I'd quickly rank some of them.
1. Southampton 2024: 3-2 - 'He's magic, you know' 2. Port Vale 2023: 2-1 - Broadhead masterclass 3. Leicester 2023: 1-1 - Morsy's 'lucky' equalizer 4. Bristol City 2024: 3-2 - 'Think Ipswich Town are going to wither away?' etc 5. Wolves 2023: 3-2 - Jack Taylor thunder-b 6. Derby 2022: 1-0 - The night of the blackout kit 7. Sunderland 2021: 1-1 - First game after KMc's appointment 8. AFC Wimbledon 2019: 2-1 - Jackson's late winner (Probably missed a few obvious ones)

I was one of the "lucky" 2000 who witnessed the dismal 2-0 defeat by Pompey. My only positive memory of that drivel was thinking Harness was a decent player and I'd like to see him at Town.
That was an awful experience.

Didn't we lose 2-0 at home against Grimsby around that time too? I think it was a Saturday game. It was raining and the lights were on. Could've been 98?
It was Saturday 9 Jan 1999. Grimsby won 1-0. It was awful. Crowd was 15575. Our team was of course largely the one that got promoted the following season (Thetis was gone, thank goodness and so was KD - sadly). It was a good team with a nasty habit of blowing up in key games - like against Crewe on the Portman Road boating lake in the April.

I went to the game against Burton a few days later (might have been the day after my birthday).
Another miserable experience, even though we won. Lambert had lost the supporters well before then, and those of us who were there didn't even have the interest to give him some abuse.
Lambert got another year's work out of ITFC due to Covid. He was already getting increasing amounts of stick in the run of games before play was suspended.
1984-85. FA Cup replay. Ipswich 3 Sheff Weds 2. Bit of a basketball affair. 2-1 down, Burley equalises. Alan Sunderland scores in the last minute (from what was probably an offside postion)
The next season. West Ham in another FA Cup replay. I was in the West Stand and literally couldn't move my arms. Official attendance was 25,000ish and at the time, we had room for 13,000 more. Hmmm, I think not. Game ended all square AET and we won the coin toss to host the second replay (remember them?) two nights later. The crowd for that was half the size and we lost 0-1 in the freezing cold. They also played with an orange ball which was always a delight and dividend of snowy weather.
We'd had a dismal run of results, lost 5 or 6 on the trot, but were in front against Leicester at home.
And then it started snowing, really, really, snowing. The grounds-staff did an amazing job keeping the lines clear(ish) but play got suspended several times and it was clear the Ref was a hairs-breadth from abandoning the game. I'm convinced if it hadn't been for the chorus of dismay / unhappiness from the crowd the ref would have abandoned things, looking back at the photo's there's no way play should have continued.
But somehow we reached the the final whistle and won!
Same match I had a phonecall from my partner midway through the second-half "it's bloody freezing and I've locked myself out, can you come home?" she said, "go to the pub and wait until full-time, this game is too good to leave, we're finally going to win" was my response. Got home an hour and a bit later and she was camped out in our neighbours lounge, in front of their fire, already half way through the second bottle of red!

One that will never be forgotten.
We went in Curve about 2.30 and it was snowing a bit and we thought nothing of it.
Came out about 5 to go to the ground and it had clearly pelted it down in the meantime.

Rather ashamedly, myself and my companions sacked the game off thinking there is no way on earth it's going ahead so we just got our serious drinking heads on and camped out at McGinty's (Halberd) with the roaring fire.
Just after 5 we noticed that we were indeed, playing. We remained in the pub though.
Ipswich Town 2 Wigan Athletic 1 21/12/2004 Portman Road
Thunderbastard from Leighton Baines. It started snowing and Benty scored the winner in the last minute. We all went home singing "Top of the league on Christmas Day"

I was due to go as usual (ST holder), but totally chickened out. Bottled it. I didn’t fancy driving up from Kent, sitting in that and it was on tv. I don’t think I ever made a better decision.
Agreed - that the game should have been abandoned is about as obvious as the penalty claim v Leicester the other week.

My only positive was hearing John Anthony Portsmouth Football Club Westwood ringing that stupid bell outside the ground instead of inside.

Watching us losing 2-0 at home to Stockport Tuesday 4/11/1997 und lights was one of the more desperate moments I can recall. The crowd was 8,828 including the idiot writing this
I can count my son and myself under that banner…..27 years on and we are still season ticket holders. You have to look at the fans who attended that game to fans chasing after tickets who have never visited Portman Road before…we are not super fans just dedicated to following Ipswich Town

Much the same. Compared to many including a lot on here (see thread a year or two back on number of games attended) I’m certainly no superfan. Just someone who’s lived long enough to see the brilliant, the good and the abject.
Tomorrow is special. Try as they might, no club has the cache of Manchester United. They are one of the top two clubs in the world for that in my view, regardless of how badly they are managed at any given point in time. They always were and will be, even if Man City buy the next 20 PL titles.
I’m looking forward to it like no other game this season.
Aside from those who endured Stockport and other desperate home games, there will be people who were at Grimsby, the humiliation at Lincoln, and plenty more besides. If anyone is a ‘superfan’ those people are and they fully deserve tomorrow’s occasion and the astonishing last three years.

I'll never forget this match. Rob Chandler playing Let it snow was pure class.
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

"Thetis was gone - thank goodness"
Point of order Churchers.
For those who were there, his double overhead kick in the 1-0 win away to the Baggies was one of the moments of the late 90s!
