He is quality, I think what stands out is even when a winger has a bit of space he never seems to be in a rush, he sort of gracefully moves to close the space, but doesn't over commit so he is still able to stop and change direction if needed.

Other than their goal I also thought O'Shea was excellent, and that wasn't really his error, just he sort of stopped rather than go all the way covering Rashford. In the second half though he was winning everything, playing good passes and moving well with the ball, and also really got stuck in a couple of times in a way I hadn't really seen before.

edit- Just seen O'Shea has his own appreciation thread, much deserved

Our worst performances this season have came with Tuanzebe absent - West Ham and Everton. We conceded four at Brentford without him too. He is such a key player and was superb once again today.

Brilliant player. I thought he didn't have his usual electric burst of recovery pace but I think he actually sort of plays within full speed maybe as he's broken down in the past. He still covers the ground quickly and never looks phased.

(I appreciate the above is probably just perception and I'm sure he is going full tilt. Not a negative, just a rolls Royce who knows when he needs to use the afterburners which is not that often for him).

Different team with him playing. We rarely look threatened down right side. With Johnson in front of him looks really solid.

To be fair he has been throughout his career, trouble had been he was constantly injured.

He is so important to us I saw that end of last season, he is able to learn from mistakes match to match and is pretty damn solid. When he did his hand in I was certainly concerned and I think we all know if he'd been there versus Brentford we'd have got a result. Nonetheless, he is here now and one of the first names on the team sheet. Love your work Axel!!

Ive always maintained he is sheer class. So many judged him when he was playing minutes after a nearly a year out of the game.

And O'Shea is now starting yo show also why McKenna wanted him here as a CB. He was immense last week at Spurs, yet hardly got a mention.

Form is transient, class permanent as they say. We got some quality defenders in the team now, they just need to stay fit.

We have 1 year option so we are ok. If he stays fit a new multi year deal must be likely.

Absolute rock,it's great because whenever a team attack down his side, I don't panic because he'll just deal with it, so valuable as a defender, and yes I think we missed that alot when he was injured

I loved today also one of the Man Utd players ran into him to try to win a free kick, and they just literally bounced off him and he didn't even break his stride.

He got dogs abuse last season - and by many, if not most on here.

Good job McKenna knows what he is doing.

I predict the same with Johnson, who apparently is sh1te.

I'm hoping he's just holding out until he's confident we stay up. There must be a decent deal on the table for him but you can see why he might not want to commit now.

I’m not sure that’s the case. Think we signed him on a 1 year contract with an option for a further year.
