If you aren't obliged to read out the away team, then don't, every advantage to create a hostile atmosphere. I think it's an American sports thing as I know when I went to baseball this year, they did the same thing, they didn't even acknowledge runs scored or pitcher changes for thr away team. There's no time to do it.
Needing to play the Premier League Anthem etc and other Premier League required stuff means it's a choice of playing Hey Jude or reading out the line-up of the opposition. Earlier in the season when they did read the opposition up, people were moaning about Hey Jude being rushed. | |

They get read out at about 15 mins before kick off. There's minimal time to read out two sets of teams in the time after the PL anthem (which I suspect can't be talked over) and the forming the huddle.
Which would you prefer - read out the away team at super quick speed so that no-one can really hear them anyway, or just focus on our team? |  |

I can see the screen, however they don't put the away team on there - just the home team. Not sure why, as they did last season. I'd much rather be able to see who the away players are as we all know who the home players are. | | | |

I think the OP is onto something there. Perhaps the announcer could pipe up during the game with quips like "Ahh that was cack" when the oppo make a duff pass or shout "MISSSSSS" when they're about to shoot at goal. Every little helps. |  |

Probably because that's who we're playing against. I'm always interested in seeing who is starting for the opposition.

Why does it matter who the away players are to home supporters? |
After the Villa game I looked up Morgan Rogers’ career and discovered he had previously scored at the North Stand end for Lincoln in League One.
Last season I looked up Luke Ayling’s career after his aggro with Burns in the Leeds game and found that they used to be team mates at Bristol City.
I find those kind of career crossovers and back stories quite interesting. Not that that in itself makes a jot of difference as whether the line-up is read out a minute before kick-off. |  | | |

Every time team news is released I look at the Town team then the opposition. It's interesting to see who they start and how they set up etc. |  |

Aren't the lineups read out each 15 minutes from teamsheets being handed in anymore/shown on the screens/shown on the scoreboards etc

Non-league football PA announcer here.
Timing, nothing more than that. I haven't been to PR this season but I'm guessing that you have the 'handshake line-up' to the strains of the PL anthem, then the coin-toss and away we go? The timetable for the start of the matches I cover at Southern League level is strict enough and the ref gets marked down if he's late for anything, so I can only imagine how stringent it is at PL level.
And, to be fair, no one wants to hear me or anyone else droning on when they're getting ready for kick off, so a home starting 11 with associated cheers is more than enough.
I do the full team and subs for both sides 15 minutes before kick off, by which time they've been on every good (and bad) social media outlet for at least 45 minutes anyway. |  | | |

I’m actually not all that fussed if they don’t bother reading out our team let alone the opposition. It’s on the screens, on your phone and all over their backs.
In particular, I couldn’t care a less who the opposition is by name. Global superstars? I go to watch my team, not them. They can have Ming the Merciless, Donald Trump and the Teletubbies in their team for all I care - they’re just 11 dudes with snappy haircuts, tattoos and bad shirts - and Man Utd’s shirt close up was a real dogs dinner. |  | | |
