That header Delap barely touched 09:47 - Dec 4 with 4559 views | reusersfreekicks | seeing it back on the box it was a decent chance but he seemed to make a mess of glancing it in when maybe a strong connection might have yielded better results. Was a decent chance that has been overlooked
That header Delap barely touched on 09:50 - Dec 4 with 3418 views | pointofblue | Delap's had a poor couple of games in general which I'm worried is down to burnout. Typical the first league midweek game of the season had to happen now.

That header Delap barely touched on 09:51 - Dec 4 with 3415 views | soupytwist | It looked to me, admittedly from the other end of the ground, that the cross had enough on it to make it basically a question of heading it straight at the goal. A shame really, one of the few occasions where we were able to get a decent cross in.

I agree with this. Looked easy at first, but the replay suggested it was more awkward than it first appeared.

I was quite surprised Davis went with a high cross tbf, usually as seen with a previous delap goals supplied by Davis, that ball is whipped in mid height for a volley.

He did, but we should have had enough about us to deal with it. It was a good finish, exactly what was needed given the players around him and what they were doing.

Almost like the main area we needed to strengthen was up top, and we failed miserably

That header Delap barely touched on 10:27 - Dec 4 with 3156 views | JW_ITFC | To be able to head a ball in a direction that isn’t back the way it’s come from you need to get your head behind further than the back of the ball (relative to the goal) and head it towards it. Liam could only just arch his head back enough to get the glance so couldn’t get the movement needed to get it towards goal. Super awkward when bending your back like a dolphin mid air too. I don’t really see it as a chance at all, unless he tries to flick it up for a runner coming in

I though Delap was about our only hope last night well until the subs came on , the three behind him where about 10 mtrs away he was always fighting an uphill battle against their defenders ' a really tough night for him .

Harry Kane of 5 years ago would have struggled against that defence on his own lastnight. Delap had no support at all

He's knackered and it's a real shame we don't have Hirst or another striker to come on for him earlier or even start games to save us from flogging him. As a wider point, while everyone was excited about having a midweek game again, I think last night showed the difference levels in fitness required to go Saturday-Tuesday in the Championship and in the Prem. They made one change from the weekend and were charging around all night whereas we were looking leggy midway through the first half.

I was quite surpised about how much KM seemed to be looking forward to having a quick run of games like it was going to be benefit us, if anything it's the worst thing that we could happen to us with such a light squad

Yep, hard to single Delap out for losing possession 100 yards from our goal.

My issue is how much have we changed J Clarke as a player. It was spoken of about Grealish and how pepe changed him, when you compare what he was for villa and what he became at city, it was just a different player and not a positive change. J Clarke for me isn't actually suited to KM football, not at least whilst Davis is at the club.

Yep. He's a young player playing far too many minutes than he should be and the pressure on him to come to our rescue each game is taking its toll. Poor planning from Ashton imo. Hirst was out injured when the window closed an our only other option was Ali, who is never going to start or come n much before the 80th minute.

Was at least double marked every time, Palace had done their homework, and passed the practical test on the night . . .

Both Omari and Delap were double marked. It was up to the other players to use the free space to their advantage, which they failed to do.

I remember a moment in the first half last night where J Clarke received the ball near the touchline and within a split second he had four Palace players around him and no possible route to any of ours. It must have felt suffocating.

They've both done well and are now marked men, but realistically they're still both young inexperienced players trying to compete against experienced international Prem players. When teams are doubling up against them it's always going to be extremely tough for them ,other players need to step up and increase our potency across the pitch

That's why though we needed to sacrifice having Morsy sitting deep and having him and Cajuste high like we did against Man Utd so that there were more options available when the likes of Delap and Clarke had the ball. They had no one to give the ball too and found themselves having to try and skillfully beat 2 or 3 players everytime.
