Davis on MOTD 23:35 - Dec 21 with 7319 viewsBluecasp

Davis absolutely slaughtered on Match of the Day by Ashley Williams and Shearer. Have to say they were probably right. Can't believe how high he was for the first goal and he just kept on doing it. No way is he getting an England call up in the near future with that positional sense.

He was clearly told to do that from kick-off and has always been told to do that in matches, others are told to cover and weren't.

Context is important but too complicated for MOTD and it seems yourself.

Thing is, is he just following the manager/coach's orders?

I was there when McKenna's ITFC won in the Premier League at Home.

Unfortunately we rely on our left back as our biggest chance creator..that's an issue in itself.

But from the start.. he's always going forwards. It's not new. There was a gaping hole in the middle tho. No idea who was supposed to be there.

Yeah, because it worked so well for us. Asking Burgess to cover in the left back role is certainly playing to his strengths. But then again you know best. The oracle of TWTD.

Its odd for me and SB to be on the same wave here. But he's defending davis in the fact that we was following directives given to him by the manager

That has absolutely nothing to do with what I posted.

Perhaps go read it again and make a more coherent and accurate response.

Out of interest, why are your views more valid? That is what you are stating with your "oracle of TWTD" remark.

Every neutral fan I have watched a game with has said the same about Davis.

Good enough going forward to play at the highest level, but as a defender has work to do before he will get anywhere near an international call-up. Our blue tinted glasses seem to negate the fact that despite the fact he creates countless chances, he is getting found out at this level defensively.

I think the answer is a lot of training and coaching, but in the meantime we need to go to three at the back as that will offer him protection whilst also allowing him to get forward.

Neither of our full backs are great positionally to be honest, Axel is by far the best one we have at the club in terms of defending, standing his ground and positioning. Maybe he doesn't offer a huge amount going forward but he's a vastly better defender than Clarke and Davis.

Not exactly cutting edge stuff from Williams.

"If I'm Burgess I don't care what my coach *who has just got us promoted twice in a row* says".

It's a bit odd to be worried about such things and find them odd. I am sure you have better things to do.

He has always made snidey comments and put downs towards other users. I don't understand the need for it either but do my best to ignore it.

Even Ashley Williams and Shearer don't understand the way he does.

I find the whole signing off as SB thing a bit weird too. I don't know why it bothers me.

Anyone who thought he'd be playing for England now, and there is quite a few, had blue tinted glasses on.

He's clearly not ready. Defensively poor. He wad against the good teams last year (Leeds away?)

However he's still young and he's probably being told to play this way.

It's quite amusing that you've complained about snidey comments whilst making snidey comments.

It's also interesting that you've singled me out in the thread when multiple other users have said the same thing. Saying that Shearer and Williams are right is an appeal to authority fallacy. It's clear what McKenna has asked him to do and they haven't taken that into account.

Is he defensively poor though? I think an argument could be made that we don't really know as he's never asked to play as an orthodox defender where he would be concentrating on being in the right position for that rather than getting forward.

I think you're right on the England call to though, that seems a long way away at the moment.

In reality it was a criticism of the way KMc sets us up to play.

Well said Davis Clarke and Johnson are poor defenders at this level possibly work in progress I said before the game the wide areas can kill us.

And you I assume? Davis was also really poor in the final third and not up with the play at key times when we broke. He was abysmal yesterday. That’s not complicated, he just wasn’t at the races.

yeah, personally I think Williams lived up to Lineker's introduction as a div. When Lineker asked if McKenna had instructed him to go forward he basically said that he'd want Davis to ignore such an instruction.

Don't boil a kettle on a boat.

Davis on MOTD on 09:52 - Dec 22 with 4072 viewsbluelagos

My take on it.

Am sure Leif's high position is as instructed by KM, so if any criticism is made on that aspect of his game, it is more than a tad unfair.

In terms of directing any criticism instead at KM, I think the high full back - almost wing back role is something that has served many top sides well. I recall Klopp defending Trent after he was caught out and similarly cost a goal - Klopp's argument being that the attacking advantages/opportunities created outweighed the disadvantages.

Whether Leif needs to reign it in a bit, or whether we need to ensure better cover or whether we simply accept it will cost us occasionally - that I guess is for bigger footballing brains than me...
