Delap Sale 00:19 - Dec 31 with 2923 viewssmithy69

If for instance Chelsea came In Jan and offered 80m (I’m not saying he is worth this - but just as a figure) with us having time to bring a suitable replacement in, or even 2- would you take it - knowing that if we went down we would get half of that probs max if we were in the championship and he would want to leave

Ashton has said we will need to trade and that’s why we have invested in young, British talent

Just wondered what people thought

I don't think you could replace him in Jan.

A player of the quality we need wouldn't come to us.

No chance!

He’s integral. Irreplaceable at present.

The guy is a machine.

If he’s got to go, he goes in the summer

Not selling him. He's going to score the goals to keep us up.

He's working with the best manager in the league already. Why move.

I personally think, I don’t think I’ve seen a better player in the last 20 years in a blue shirt than him, when he’s on it

He’s 21 . Scary

This situation just reminds me of the Torres and Andy Carroll debacle a few years ago. Mad money in January benefits no one imo and you're left scrambling in a sellers market.

From a town perspective the objective is survival and Delap could have a pivotal say in that for us. So it's a no.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

He’s worth more than £80M. His resale value is huge. A future England player. I could see him being named in the next England squad.

We need him to stay up. Don't see us selling in Jan and a decent chance his value actually goes up.

I suspect summer may be a different story but that gives us time and if we feel we can make team stronger with he money then it could be right for the club.

We might have to trade but not this January for a player who’s been here 6 months. As for his value if we went down, we will have no need to sell, certainly not at fire sale prices, so if we do sell it will be at our price

We'll never sell him in Jan,we need his goals and more importantly i dont think he'd want to leave, how many 21 y/o are starting up top for a prem team!?
The summer though is a different story!

Look at the length of contracts given this summer, there is no rush to sell anyone in January or the summer window. One fact is we need another forward in the January window to give us any chance of staying up.
If we had been losing that game tonight Delap gets taken off early to protect him, at 2 - 0 he was left on to try and see out the game. I was very impressed with KMc tonight he got everything right which is a good sign.
If those players are fit for the weekend we could see the first time an 11 have started consecutive games.

Over reaction much? He’s very good don’t get me wrong, but England? Not just yet.

I'd put him ahead of Solanke atm. He'd be 3rd choice behind Kane and Watkins, which wouldn't be a bad thing as he probably wouldn't play, whereas if he was with the u21's he'd play.

The only way I could see us selling him, even for £80m, is if we agreed a loan back until the end of the season as part of the deal.
The chances of him being here next season are low, given the sheer number of big clubs, throughout Europe, that are said to be monitoring him; that's even if we stay up. A centre forward of his physical profile & age would be an asset to any club.
So, having said that, were we to get a massive cash boost now, to use in the January window in order to keep us up, while retaining his services until the end of the season, it might be something that the club could consider.

No chance – we have the best young striker in the country, an absolutely unique talent, and if we are to stay up he will need to continue playing a massive part. Let's remain in the Premier League and strengthen, and hope that keeps him here a little longer. If it doesn't then, as you suggest, the money will be huge.

And if all else fails, it would still be a vast sum if we went down – effectively another parachute payment for us. We can't really lose with Delap as long as he stays fit.

Staying in the PL is worth far more than £80m, and he gives us a great chance. So for me the financials don’t make sense. Were we an established mid table side, with an extensive scouting network, and a conveyor belt of talent like Brighton then my answer would be different.

Aren't many English strikers who've scored more this year though. He's surely got a place on the bench at least if he keeps this up.

It's a balance between getting excellent value, the impact on the potential to stay up and how much the right replacement would cost. It would certainly take a figure around that you quote for us to be interested at all and I doubt that would be enough really. I doubt any club would pay that for him right now either, not even a desperate Chelsea or Man Utd.

Just to twist the question slightly, would we consider accepting £50M with a loan back until the end of the season?

A lot of people seem confident that he’s not going anywhere any time soon. I wish I was. He was unplayable last night and each performance like that takes us a step closer to a big offer coming in. He’s done enough to prove he’s going to rip this league up, so I wouldn’t be surprised if clubs are considering testing us in Jan. I hope not of course; I agree he’s critical to our chances of staying up.
