I thought it was really well done - and there were plenty of semi-hidden in-jokes that long-standing fans of the series would get as well.
I did laugh at the choice of celebrant - Anna Maxwell Martin, was superbly comedic. Celebrants are supposed to exude warmth and friendliness (while being official) - as she does in Line of Duty, she shows none of these traits. Also fair play to the Laura Aikman who played Sonia and the lengths the show went to to throw everyone off the scent both in the episode and the screeing of it.
As Ruth Jones and James Corden said, it's good they were able to bring it to an end on their own terms.
And they've made it clear that's it - unlike OFAH who were tempted to go again after Del and Rodney struck gold with the watch.

Corden in any form is highly avoidable as he has never been a likeable performer !
Totally agree - he's an arrogant, self centred, whinging, unfunny idiot and even the Americans dislike him now. Can he stay out there please... Sorry but that's my opinion of him.

Why are you saying sorry? Most posters have simply stated their opinion on the last episode of Gavin & Stacy. It’s the people who don’t watch it who pass on their fashionable views on one of its creators.

Because Meeks said in his post “Corden *in any form* is highly avoidable as he has *never* been a likeable performer !”.

I was a tad disappointed with that as well. Just seemed like everyone was just picking up their paycheque.
There were a couple good moments - when the dad lost it and threw out all of the Amazon boxes was funny.
Outnumbered was also shocking,if that’s comedy now shove it.
Who on Earth thought it would be a good idea to give the Father Cancer? Plenty of people watching that would have been going through Cancer themselves, and wanted a bit of light relief,a laugh and giggle.
I can confirm some twelve years ago I was going through Cancer at Christmas and can confirm it’s fkn awful.

Thought it was brilliant to be honest, tied up everything other than the fishing trip. Emotional with funny moments, it was for fans of the show who have seen the journey of all the characters over 20 years.

If you're a long term fan it stitched up a lot of endings quite nicely.
I've always been pretty indifferent to it overall. I find the writing odd. Namely, how it's just a bunch of pretty hollow characters blurting out in jokes. Most of which are pretty tired or from the 90s. It's perhaps what these mass appeal shows are likely to be. Just agreeable without being sparkling.

Hard not to dislike James Cordon too.
Living in Wales and being married to a Welshie has made a massive difference to how I’ve perceived it. I don’t think I’d have got anywhere near as much out of it otherwise. It’s remarkably real to over here. I’m assuming that all comes from Ruth Jones’ writing. Without being a literary classic, obviously!, there’s a touch of understated genius to it. It’s been different in its simplicity. They talked a bit about it in the making of programme, and were spot on imo. So many programmes these days seem to aim for ever higher bars of drama, shocks, twists. G&S is just what happens daily to people.

Nobody seemed to dislike James Cordon until he became mega successful in the States. Which is very odd imo.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you although not moving there for another 6 months or so.
Will be quite the commute back to PR every other week but means I'll be doing that instead of every away game, which I've done for the last three seasons.
Will miss away matches, but can't be doing that mileage every weekend, especially as we'll be a lot further west than Swansea.

But a lot of comedy is quite closely linked with misfortune. Depression, bankruptcy, illness etc. Might not be pleasant but a lot of comedy is linked to sad or depressing subject matter.

It can be if it's done well. Grandad's funeral on Only Fools and Horses is a great example. Real life actor dies, they have a very sad funeral for the character he played, but then hit you with a great comedy moment.
I have never watched Outnumbered so can't comment on that particular example.

Absolutely right. However, the special absolutely failed to be amusing. At least in part because, at the heart of the show, were the kids and the semi improved stuff with them.
