Him signing for Villa looked stupid at the time and has proved to be even worse.
Possibly worth it at a cut price deal but we want people here like Hutch/ Delap who want to play games and contribute ... not someone who chose to sit on the bench for 6 months over signing for us.

I think that's a bit of a stretch to be honest. Villa wanted him and they'd just finish 4th in the prem, of course he chose to go there over us.

That's my thinking too. Obviously it was a bit of a fiasco with Philogene and obviously Ipswich are the finest football team the world has ever seen, but, you can't blame him going to a club like Villa where he also started his career. It was the whole drawn out affair which was unsavoury.
Wouldn't seem to be entirely worthless speculation given that it has made the esteemed TWTD news page.
Really not a ringing endorsement of Jack Clarke's current status in the squad if it is true. If we can conjure up the Hull-era Philogene, a striker who offers something different from the imperious Delap (Latte Lath for example), and bring Hirst and Axel back to fitness, I'd be very happy with that indeed.

McKenna has pursued players he’s interested in for quite a while in the past.
Wouldn’t be surprised if there is something to this.

For what it's worth, Jack Clarke actually has better attacking returns (2 assists) than Philogene this year featuring in just three more games.
Philogene has no G/A contributions across 15 games in all comps in a side that has the possession and attacking impetus in the vast majority of games.
I presume this would be with an eye to covering the right hand side more so than the left anyway.

Is that with some knowledge of the situation? I would have thought we would want to keep the last remaining Premier League loan slot free (given we have two slots and one of them is filled with KP) for a striker should we need it?

but we know that McKenna doesn't buy players based on their "stats" - he looks at their attributes, and whether those attributes will work for how he wants his team to play.

That's the sad thing, if we loan him, we know for sure we aint getting ferguson :(

You mean, get the right fit based on our approach, playing style and the personal attributes needed and, then as a by product, the stats will follow?
How revolutionary!

Doesn't really explain J Clarkes purchase though, he imo anyway doesn't fit our approach, playing style and doesn't have the personal attributes to play the role we want him to play.

I'd have thought there is a permanent deal to be done. Especially as Villa got him 20-30% cheaper (depending what number you believe) than we had offered in the summer. Chance for them to trade and make a nice, quick profit on a player they've obviously decided isn't at the level they need.

Such an odd signing.
It's all about opinions isn't it.
I think he does.

Yes, I appreciate Philogene has not been a success at Villa (there'd be no chance of him being available to us if he had...), but as I say, a Philogene firing like he did at Hull would be fantastic.
I know it takes time to integrate into a system, and the Prem is a (big) step up, but I think JClarke has been the most disappointing of our summer signings. He was so lauded at Sunderland and seemed a very exciting signing. Also, he's 24, so he does need to be cracking on with his career. He's no raw teenage talent. He's seemed physically lightweight and also the end product has been lacking. Having signed him as a second choice behind Philogene, if we then go back in for Philogene in Jan, he's got to be worried!
It's too soon to hope that Sunderland get promoted and buy him back, but very underwhelmed so far.

I disagree with you on that, he has the profile that fits the role in our team, dribbler, right footed, cuts inside.
I just think for whatever reason so far he's not got it tactically. I said at the time, im not sure he's got the physical attributes for the premier league, but i hope he comes good, he needs a run of games which unfortunately we can't give him at this current time because of our position.
He might be one that needs a full pre season with us and time to understand what we need. Really hope he comes good because we've seen little glimmers.
