How did Hirst look? on 22:47 - Jan 12 by FrimleyBlue | Altho he did nothing of note.. He did however show on a few occasions how to make a run for Burgess to chip it over into an unoccupied space and Hirst makes a run around the defender to meet the ball. It's those runs that made him a dangerous player for us as it opens up passing options. |
His movement is exceptional and has been since he joined us.
How did Hirst look? on 10:08 - Jan 13 with 593 views | Rimsy | Thought he looked class and unlucky not to score. If he can keep himself fit enough to play 25 minutes a game, coming on for Delap we'll be strong. Another striker as backup to those 2 as Ali is not the answer.

How did Hirst look? on 10:10 - Jan 13 with 586 views | JammyDodgerrr | You can just see his positional sense and ability to pull defenders is exceptional, and he looked ready to go. We definitely still need another body in, but Hirst is definitely important and can be a top player if we can keep him fit. Luckily for his recovery, he probably will only have to worry about 20 minutes here and there for a little while as Delap is the main man atm.

How did Hirst look? on 07:23 - Jan 13 by tonybied | I make it 3 injuries, 1 Hamstring last year and 2 Knee injuries this year. I agree that he's no Teddy Bishop, but he has missed a significant portion of the last year. Hopefully, this period will be behind him now but it definitely highlights that we need a backup of at least the same quality as Hirst. |
We don't really know about the summer knee issue but the other two injuries looked to be in the 'unlucky' category for - i.e. the same incident would have likely caused the same injury in most players. His hamstring tear came from slipping on the wet grass and rapidly overextending rather than from running and his latest knee injury came from a really awkward landing. The concern is that some of these fairly significant injuries have knock on effects later and end up causing more problems. Let's hope this isn't the case as before his hamstring injury he'd been pretty much injury free in his career.

How did Hirst look? on 07:00 - Jan 13 by ITFC_Forever | Missed him come very close to scoring then? |
Yes, that was a quality timed run, at a good speed and an excellently controlled attempted dinked finish, foiled by a cracking save from a good keeper. Very sharp little cameo for a player who had been out for ages, and demonstrated his intelligence and positioning really well at times too.

A fit Hirst and Delap are fine on 10:14 - Jan 13 with 559 views | Dyland | If they both stay super fit and get no suspensions. And that "if" is bigger than the Death Star, and here's another one... If we don't sign another striker I can't see us staying up.

How did Hirst look? on 10:37 - Jan 13 with 473 views | Bellevue_Blue | We have to get another striker due to the fitness related issues but in the absence of those, he's more than good enough to start for us in the Premier League. Will really really help us.
