...an offer from Boro to turn George Edmundson's loan move into a permanent one

Seems surprising when he is out of contract in the summer, think we'd take what we can get

Must be a low ball offer if true.

Given how well he's been doing for them, is there perhaps half an eye on a relegation scenario? If we can't/won't keep hold of O'Shea and Greaves, we could do a lot worse than keeping hold of Fridge.

What sort of fee would we be realistically looking at at present? Sub-£1m? If so, it might be worth turning such a bid down in order to retain the option of keeping hold of him.

On one hand, yes, but he's out of contract in the summer and will be demanding big wages/signing bonus - which he'd get at Boro. Think we'd be able to replace him efficiently enough if we are relegated.

Presumably we have an option of another year though?

So potential would take up that option and then look to sell?

You would think its better than him walking away on a free though, even if we take a low offer with a sell on. MA knows what he's doing though, maybe if we had a recall on him we're hoping to get a bigger offer later in the month or force Boro into offering more.

Depends on what they are offering though.

£700,000 plus more if Boro go up, I gather.

This is definitely feasible.

If we got relegated and sold our assets we’d be looking to sign players like George Edmundson.

Seems perfectly reasonable, especially if we don't have an option for another year. If we do, then I can see why we would turn it down. We could trigger it and get that sort of money in the summer I'm sure, plus as others have said it keeps our options open to potentially keep him if we go down.

A replacement would definitely cost more than the £700k we've turned down. With the potential rewards for staying up, it feels like a gamble worth taking - if we do stay up, missing out on £700k will be a drop in the ocean.

I don't think he does have an option of another year.

When he signed, it was a 4 year deal and it didn't appear to have an option on it. I might be wrong, but £700,000 seems like a decent offer that we've turned down. We may be looking to recoup closer to the £1m mark, but Boro have a fair bit of control over this one considering Edmundson can't go anywhere else this season to play football and in 6 months time, he's available on a free where he will most likely end up back at Boro.

If we feel there's room to push them further then I'm sure we will. Another £100,000 or so might do it.

Seems very odd that we used him at Man City given the 2 club rule if he doesn't have an option for another year.

Not suggesting you're wrong by the way, just a bit short sighted as he can't go anywhere else now. Also begs the question why Boro are keen to do a permanent deal, when they've got him on loan and could potentially do it on a free in the summer (unless they think they'll face heightened competition then).

It was a nice touch of man-management by McKenna.

Sentimental appearance. The boyhood club he supported, nearing the end of August and he was part of the journey from the day McKenna walked in. It may only have been for no more than 5minutes, but he can always say he's played in the Prem now - which given his journey from Oldham, is impressive.

I think we all knew Edmundson wasn't going to be part of the Prem squad this season, but with the money we get from the Prem, if we lose him, it won't be a dent financially. I've heard he's been very good for Boro, so perhaps they're looking to beat competition and get it done now.

Sorry, clarification, deal worth £700,000, £350,000 now and £350,000 if they go up, which makes turning it down more understandable.
