Brighton's gamesmanship/cheating tonight 21:27 - Jan 16 with 6716 viewsDubtractor

So much diving, feigning injury and time wasting.

Horrible team.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

It is weak refereeing/ VAR that allows teams to get away with it.

While we didn’t do enough to deserve a win a draw would have been appropriate.

The flattening of Walton. From where the referee was placed could understand the yellow card, he wasn’t in a position to judge the distance between attacker & keeper so it looked as if the Brighton player jumped with Walton. He didn’t he jumped into Walton and from some distance. VAR should have invited the referee to look at the screen and suspect it would have been changed to a red as it was reckless.

Rutters goal should have been disallowed for offside. Dunk was clearly in an offside position and if he hadn’t jumped out ofthe way of the goal bound ball Walton may have saved it.

Fine margins.

Was that your feelings when Delap went down to win our two pens recently with minimal contact? He could've easily stayed on his feet in both scenarios.

I don't like it but you gotta do what you gotta do.

It's different to feigning injury, a la Chelsea and Brighton. Probably not the reason we lost last night but EVERY time in the second half we got the ball from a tackle and tried to develop an attack the oppo player rolled around like they'd... like, er... I don't know. Literally no injury in the world makes you roll around like that cos you're, well, injured innit. It's obvious bad acting and cheating to stop and break up play, and the officials do fack all about it. It ruins the spectacle.

VAR spent a while looking at Dunk’s possible offside didn’t they? The trouble there is the subjectivity of the law.

There needs to be a rule where if the game is stopped by a player rolling around on the floor feigning a head injury they have to go off for 5 minutes to be assessed. That would stop it in an instant.

Brighton's gamesmanship/cheating tonight on 23:34 - Jan 16 by ArnoldMoorhen

I'm just wondering, if it is "normal", in the Premier League, to over-exaggerate any contact, eg a tap on the leg requires the player to throw themselves on the floor, or fingers catching the throat require eyes to be flushed out with saline solution.

Then what would be the appropriate "Premier League exaggeration" by Walton after the attempt to knock him out?

Lie completely still for three minutes? Kneck brace? Spine board? Maybe even the funny little golf cart thing? He should have given it the full works!

And then VAR would have looked at a possible Red Card.

In answer to your question - yes it’s absolutely normal. All the established PL clubs do it. Even Arsenal (Odegaard) did it against us and we barely touched the ball in that one!

Don’t like it all personally and would love to see some sort of retrospective punishment introduced for those who go down clutching their head when someone has touched their chest, but until then we’re stuck with it while we’re in this division

Might also encourage players who really do need medical treatment to simply stay on the pitch for longer than they should.

The fact that you're highlighting individuals from 25 years ago should tell you about the culture at this club.

And even then, Lee's diving was cringeworthy. I don't recall Dyer being particularly bad for diving. Taricco was a bit of an exception.

But my main point was that this behaviour was across the whole Brighton team, from minute one. It's a part of modern football that I despise.

What is your definition of cheating? Is diving for example, any worse than a donkey from the 70s or 80s deliberately going in hard on a striker to let him know that he’s there? One might result in a penalty, the other a serious injury.

A special mention to Veltman, absolute prick ot the highest order.

Annoying as he was he made Delap look like a petulant schoolboy. Very good performance from him last night. Its a side of the game which is a massive turn off but every side does it to some extent or another.

One is readily and correctly penalised under the rules. The other is cheating becuase it is dihonest.

They did- but yet again, no lines were drawn to make sure we could not reach our own view.

VAR is bent.

If he was in an offside position the goal should clearly have been disallowed. I don't know if it was or not because we saw no lines. There has to be transparency if we are going to trust these systems, but they seem to have moved to the approach that they show us very little in order to stifle any dissent or questions.

No lines needed he was clearly in an offside position. The question they were looking to answer was did he interfere with play. They got it wrong.

Im not sure he was. But if that is correct, then it is a shocking decision and once again inexplicable. Dunk literally lifted his foot for the ball to pass under it.

He was a yard offside. Bizarre showing it tbh, cos it gave no evidence one way or the other re interfering with play, it only showed he was clearly offside.

If you're injured enough to require attention, then it should be an automatic 2 minutes off from the moment that the game is restarted. Would soon stop the theatrics.

Or the game just carries on and the player receives treatment whilst the game continues. Fairly sure that’s what happens in rugby?

It's the endemic culture and dishonesty of modern football that has developed and been coached into players and they are "better" at it the higher you go. Just look at what goes on when waiting for a corner to be taken. It's football for f###s sake, keep your hands to yourself! VAR comprehensively reviewing every PL game and exposing it might have an effect in time but they'll never go for that. Far prefer the honest donkeys I used to watch to what the game has become.

Rugby players don't really abuse this though. Can you imagine when inevitably some medical staff knock over a running winger or interfere in play haha!

Pretty irrelevant to use an example from 50 years ago that has rightly been almost completely removed from the game.

Genuinely hate everything about this league.

The blatant cheating, non-sensical VAR decisions, the players' going out of their way to get opposition players sent off, Sky, terrible opposition bantz and Half & Half scarves.

Brighton were the best/worst exponents of s**thousery that we've encountered this season.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

You’re probably right on that point but I do think if we’re winning, Brighton’s tactics would be labelled game management. But if we’re losing then it’s gamesmanship.

Chicken and egg though a bit. Do they not abuse the system because they know that the game will carry on without them.
