So basically we need 3 points from the below mataches, if we don't win these games we would be likely relegated?

Wolves (H)
Leicester (A)
Everton (A)
Southampton (H)

Is that going to be enough to get 17th place, close.

All starts tonight I guess, we need Chelsea to pump Wolves by no less than 6.

Spoiler alert, we aren't staying up. Winning those still leaves us 10 points short. A Chelsea resurgence would be nice tonight but can see Wolves getting something they actually look a much better side than their results show.

As are we. However points don't lie.

Any side that loses 6:0 to anyone probably doesn’t deserve to be in the same league. The only other team that might do that is Southampton. It’s been fun but I very much doubt that we will stay up this year. We’ll need some huge slices of luck if we do…

You can’t say we’re not staying up when we have the same points tally as our direct competition
with 16 still to play.

I know yesterday hurt but no need to say silly things.

That’s not really the case. There have been some big wins against established PL clubs over the last few years. The level at the top over the last 5-6 years or so has just got ridiculous.

We will definitely need more wins than this, but who knows what might happen. We have seen for the past two seasons, how our second half has propelled us to new levels due to recruitment.

I'm quietly confident that we can stay up, one loss doesn't define anything and I've seen enough from this squad to show they are definitely capable, but need to do things on a more consistent basis.

We definitely need another striker, maybe someone with something different to Delap/Hirst

We need a point more than Wolves and to not let Leicester get a couple back on us.

We could stay up by only taking another point and we could go down winning 10 before now and May.

There's no guaranteed points that keeps you up. We just need to finish above 3 other teams whatever that looks like.

One of those slices of luck needs to be a record low points total for staying in the league.

This is currently 34 set by West Brom in 2005 (ignoring Forest's points deduction last season).

Realistically we aren't getting to 34 points, so have to hope that Leicester and Everton/Wolves don't either.

Southampton and Bournemouth have both lost premier league matches 9-0 and stayed up

One off results don't matter, it's the performance over the whole season and we still find ourselves level on points with 17th with over half the season gone (albeit that could change tonight)

Didn’t villa beat Liverpool 7-2 or 8-2 a few years ago. Not sure a battering means you don’t deserve to be in the league

If Wolves lose tonight, they have a really tough run in of games coming up, you can't see them getting much from them and in this period we have Southampton at home. If we don't beat Southampton and beat them well, I would think that is curtains if we don't get any points before that on top.

Who knows though, the whole thing / last few years have been bonkers so expect a box office finish no doubt.

On Sky yesterday they said if we were to average a point per game till the end of the season then we avoid relegation. Is that possible?

We'll know at the end of February.

On paper we should be able to get four points from Southampton, Villa, Spurs & United.

If we can't we don't deserve to stay in the league, barring a miracle run of three wins on the spin.

We need to beat Southampton first of all. I imagine the stadium will be pretty tense though and there frustration will creep in if we're not winning by the 20th min or whatever.

We need to avoid that though. It's not a walk in the park just because they're below us, we need to make sure we do enough to win the game, something that we have struggled to do against the teams around us.

If we can't get a win of any kind against Southampton then we probably don't deserve to stay up. Think we are in good shape to be honest players coming back from injury hopefully at the right time for the run in.

Southampton stayed up twice after having 9-0 defeats. It can happen.

Spot on! The problem with not winning many of the games where you aren't expected to heaps pressure on the matches with teams around us, which is where we haven't done well enough this season.

Fingers crossed we improve on that and we really will have a fighting chance.

What?

Liverpool thumped Man Utd 7-0 last season, not sure many would say United don’t belong in the top flight.

Didn’t Arsenal put 6 past West Ham with supposedly safe and pragmatic Moyes?

To stay up, we have to make sure we do roughly as well (or badly) as Wolves and Leicester: I don't think we will catch Everton.

Of the two, Wolves look the most likely to be able to turn it round.

Definitely. We have to win that day, but the crowd can take a bit of heat off the day by turning up from the 1st minute and making ourselves heard so the players can bounce off that.

I thought the crowd was good early in the game, and also later in the game, but when you're being heavily defeated it's difficult.

We are very light attacking wise. Totally reliant on Delap. Wolves and even Leicester have more attacking threat than us IMO. Yesterday was a bad day at the office, but my concern is where our goals are coming from to keep us up and we don't look like adding to that this transfer window with the forward we were all hoping for.

We've had unfortunate injuries, but the main thing that will cost us is not the poor defending (but needs to be better) it's the lack of goal threat.
