Almost everything’s demolished and people are dying there, so I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations and build housing in a different location where I think they could maybe live in peace for a change."

Can you even imagine the uproar if this was Putin? “You’re talking about probably a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing and say: ‘You know, it’s over.’” Also on Saturday Trump said he had ordered the resumption of shipments of some of the largest bombs to Israel, a widely expected move. Biden had paused delivery of the 2000lbs bombs due to concerns about civilian casualties in Gaza caused by the powerful weapons, which rip through thick concrete and metal over a large area. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jan/26/trump-resumes-sending-2000-pound https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2025/1/26/live-toddler-among-three-kille

But the machine is doing its job, and people like me can't bear to think about it too much any more, so it can expand its operations and achieve its aims without my attention on it. I understand that this is how many feel about climate change too, power begetting power and fkucing up the world and anything decent and sharing and kind and humble. Bunch of cstun.

It's soul destroying isn't it and paying witness can be at some personal expense in terms of well-being. The sham of supposed power exerted through democracy is entirely a fiction.

I still find at insane that lots of American based muslims voted for Trump as 'a change might lead to a better outcome for Gaza'. What was going on in these people's heads to remotely think that?! This isn't to say that Biden was good, but Trump was only ever going to be worse.

That's true Dubbers but there really are no good choices available to us now. We are entirely owned and at the whim of the corporate machine.

All build on the blood of tens of thousands of people. But hey, that's progress right? Palestinians will be happier - and safer - living in Egypt and Jordan, and Israel will be safe from them too, so it's a win-win, problem solved. Well done Trumpy and Netenyahoooooo.

Your post reminded me of a blog I read this week which contained this paragraph: "One memorable experience from my time at the University of Bath was when a student explained to me that she found it patronising and incorrect for UK universities to teach that democracy was always the right way to organise society, especially when she observed greater poverty and inequality in the UK than in her home country. This didn’t alter my view on the importance of democratic rights or that it is the best way to organise society – but I’m so grateful that my ingrained belief and perception were challenged in this way and that I had the opportunity to consider an entire societal structure through the perspective of someone from a different background to my own." https://www.hepi.ac.uk/2025/01/24/have-we-been-looking-at-free-speech-all-wrong/

There is a fabulous irony that an act such as that exists when the scope for what is taught at Universities and encouraging free thinking has been reduced so drastically over recent decades because it's all about careers now and paying back the man.

Israeli forces opened fire on protesters trying to reach villages, killing at least 15 people, including a Lebanese soldier, and injuring more than 80, according to Lebanon’s ministry of health. Several people were also arrested by Israeli forces.

This is the wording concerned. "Individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory [Gaza] to the territory of the Occupying Power [Israel] or to that of any other country, occupied or not, are prohibited, regardless of their motive." And any settlements of Gaza by Israel would be prohibited by this provision of Article 49. Sadly no, but it would mean that Western governments couldn't claim the moral high ground as regards the Global South when it came to the so-called international rules-based order. But of course it could be argued the pass on this has already been sold. [Post edited 26 Jan 21:28]

We blew our moral high ground long ago by sitting and watching all of this. Plays right into the hands of the new alliances of Russia, South Africa, China, Iran, Brazil etc. They see us and can show us as utter hypocrites when it comes to this rule of law stuff.
Is anyone still pretending this isn't genocide and ethnic cleansing? on 12:31 - Jan 27 with 1929 views | LeoMuff | This was clearly the plan all along, level Gaza and kill a sizeable portion of its population, then what do you do ? 2 million people can’t live without infrastructure… You move them to “temporary “ areas while Gaza is rebuilt, which of course takes many many years, and viola probably better off now keeping this an Israeli area.
