A bit of perspective wouldn't go amiss 23:25 - Feb 1 with 1987 viewsBucklebury_blue

Remember where we were before the Americans, MA and then KMcK arrived... slumming it in L1 with a dilapidated stadium and possible heading for L2 if the downward spiral under ME continued. Then, when we won promotion to the Championship, nobody expected us to win immediate promotion to the PL. The feeling was we would spend a couple of seasons there before going for promotion. So, if we go down, we will simply be where we expected to be and this season would have been a bonus and a valuable insight into how it works among the big boys...which is considerably different from the last time we were here, 22 years ago. In that time clubs once owned by local businessmen have been bought by billionaires and, in a couple of cases, by countries.
Every season Kieran McKenna has tried to manage fans' expectations, warning that things won't always go our way. Well, they haven't been, so this is just the time when real fans step up. What do you expect to gain by booing our team? The players need us to have faith and support them as the new arrivals bed in. And by the way, we are not down yet.

We’ve had posts like this after more or less every game this season - we took 6 points off them last season, and 1 this season. Not good enough

It’s just a ridiculous argument, it’s like saying we shouldn't have celebrated the League 1 promotion because we won the UEFA Cup once. You get where you get to based on merit, for better or for worse - we are a Premier League team expected by some to clap and cheer because we’ve lost to the worst team the league has seen in 15 years FFS

If that is the case why bother to get promoted then? Might as well tread water and stay mid-table in the Champ like we did for more than a decade or better still in League One, where we look like a big fish in a small pond?

It is all about the continuous pursuit of excellence and improvement. Which I fail to see this season. We had a far greater disparity squad-wise with Saints last season and did the double over them. Today, after more than a hundred million spent we lost to them at home, a side that has conceded 57 and only won once all season.

If we fight and lose, or simply outclassed, like the 2-0 and 4-1 losses to Liverpool on the opening day, the 0-6 loss to City or the 3-4 to Leeds last season I have no qualms but watching the match today and other pathetic performances v Everton, West Ham, Brighton, Palace et al I dare you to tell me the team and manager brook no criticism. Simply a pathetic performance all round

Morsy and McKenna's men should be thanking their lucky stars they are playing for Ipswich, if this performance was repeated at any other PL club you'd see thousands walk out at half time, players and manager being abused and booed off the pitch every match

Reminding everybody where we’ve come from is becoming a bit of an excuse as to why we’re failing where we are now.

Everyone knows this. It’s been said a billion times over and over. We all know it’s been a remarkable journey, an incredible rise rise etc. there is nothing to be gained from wallowing in where we’ve come from and patting ourselves on the back because we’ve got a nice looking stadium.

I am not expecting anyone to clap and cheer because we lost, I am as disappointed as you are by the defeat, and don't expect anyone to clap and cheer at it, but you are expected to support the team through good and bad times. 'Supporter'... the clue is in the name.

I agree.

There seem to be two equally tedious and entrenched camps.

Those that keep reminding everyone, constantly, that we were in league 1 in 2022, this is to be expected and KM is still a miracle worker.

Those that expected us to acclimatise far better to life in the top division, having spent more in two transfer windows than we’ve previously spent in our entire history.

As always, the truth lies somewhere in between. KM still has some credit in the bank but we have spent naively on a number of players he can’t integrate into a cohesive unit.

Poll: September 2025. Which one?

Forget where we were 3 years ago, investment level has changed.

The wage bill has changed, it is now at Premier League cost.

We can't bang on about our history when it suits us and then bring out that line of look where we were 3 years ago.

This is something else that is becoming really tedious. The 'super' fans belittling those that can't get to ever game or didn't do the martyrdom of a visit to Forest Green.

I got belittled as a fan first, by someone that was wrong - and obviously I did go to Forest Green or I wouldn’t have the points to get tickets to every game now

True. We’re a PL team with the least top level experience and lowest value squad in the league. Does that help set the current context?
