Palmer has been West Brom's undisputed No.1 last season and all this.

He's a good keeper and right now, we need a keeper who isn't playing with zero confidence (Muric)

Seems a sensible compromise.

Seems a sensible compromise.

Been probably the best shot stopper in the champ during that time as well.

Which as we can all see, is what we need at this moment.

We are panicking though - for whatever reason our starting keeper right now is just a calamity and the crowd, players and seemingly management have no confidence in him.

Was chatting to a mate earlier and said I'd like us to sign Palmer, never thought it'd happen though.

Gonna chat to him later tonight and say I'd like Kante and Kane though, might work?!

Yep. 18 clean sheets last season (2nd best in the league).

Low fee as about to enter last 12 months of contract. Very much an Ashton value-focussed signing.

It is a panic buy, it's desperation but desperate times call for desperate measures.

The GK situation needs addressing now and will do again in the summer - we ballsed up by letting Hladky go and haven't recovered

How is it panicking?

The club have clearly agreed we need an alternative and are acting decisively?

Surely we want that?

With Walton out and Muric’s confidence apparently shot, it feels like sensible business

Signing a starting goalkeeper on deadline day to replace one we spent £8m on earlier this season is a panic, yes.

I agree with the decision, but it is a panic all the same.

A panic buy/signing was Leon Best.

This feels sensible. 2nd best keeper in the Championship based on last season's stats for just £2m.

Fixes a problem we currently have and our manager appears to have acted decisively to fix it.

Without Walton's injury, I'm sure we wouldn't be seeing the signing.

But circumstances have changed. I still don't think it's panic, just a reaction to circumstances.

Our recruitment in the summer for GK was clearly wrong, but the club have acted positively to address that.

It's panicking because he doesn't fit the criteria McKenna wants from his keeper.

He's not good with the ball at his feet (arguably worse than Muric). Good shot-stopper admittedly, but the deal just doesn't sit right with me. I'd love to be proven wrong, but his raw attributes just don't add up as a worthwhile recruit.

He may be a steadier pair of hands, but we could've loaned someone similar and kept our powder dry for another keeper that better fits our brief in the summer.

He really wouldn't be a massive upgrade on Walton.

This would be a big mistake IMO. We need to be recruiting for a GK that's a level above Walton for next season, whether that's the Champ or PL.

No, not a panic buy when we have one of our senior keepers out for an undisclosed period. At this point, even having Walton out for 4-5 weeks could be devastating. Muric has a confidence issue that needs sorting, so we need another senior keeper in now.

So, a sensible buy, not a panic buy.

Agree he isn't great with his feet (and a West Brom pal concurs with that view) but I think he is a better shot stopper than Walton. I don't think he would have let the first Soton goal go through his fingers like a slippery sausage either.

I don't think letting Hladky go was the issue. I doubt he'd be much better than Walton and we should have 100% been trying to bring in a new goalie to improve for the Premier League.

Issue is that Muric has not worked out.

Definitely a panic buy though and one that I think we have to make. Saturday was toxic in the stands and that's not the environment for Muric to gain confidence right now.

not sure hladky would've been the answer, has a rick in him even at championship level, and is being kept out of the burnley team by trafford

Muric is being piled on by the crowd, has no confidence and has already been dropped this season. Walton is out for a long period. Slicker is not good enough.

What should we do? Play Muric and ship 2-5 goals every week on our way down?

Walton should have never been dropped after Liverpool at home, and Muric could have come in later if that had not worked with less pressure. The whole thing has been poor. Hladky came in last season, played well, and kept the shirt despite Walton being the number one. Walton should have been afforded the same opportunity but was not, and neither have Wolfenden, Burgess, and co. The newcomers haven't been any better than what we have and it's probably affected the morale of those we had .

Hopefully, we've learned from this.
