Trump Tower Gaza City on 09:07 - Feb 5 by nodge_blue | Of all the things he has come out with recently, and I probably shouldn't rank them, but this maybe the worst. The idea he can end a deeply bitter conflict by evicting millions of people and building apartments is obscene and absurd. This could be the end of Nato if the western leaders take the stance they should. And sadly it could rupture the UK/US relationship. And then we have no friends on the world stage. But sometimes you have to draw a line. But maybe tomorrow he back tracks a bit when his generals say US soldiers will be drawn into a war they cant win. |
The US forces headed up by a Fox News host, purely there to do whatever Trump says. See also, Health, FBI, CIA, Education, AG etc etc.

I think your post neatly covers it. I was amazed to read what Trump has been up to. It’s the sort of thing where you’d expect the nurse to shuffle in, give him some medication and herd him away for a lie down. To stand there next to his mate and suggest ethnic cleansing is a good idea is actually straight out of Adolf’s playbook. As MM would say, bonkers. There are actually no ‘friends’ on the world stage. Just peoples you can work with or in Americas case as we once did impose your will upon and exploit. America was never this country’s friend. In fact it is loathed by many of those that even know we exist. Special Relationship? No such thing. There never was. The US would never have entered WW2 if the Japanese hadn’t forced it and Hitler declared war on them. It suited Churchill because he saw the US as a mechanism for winning the war as opposed to just surviving. Everything the US supplied was paid for. Every penny - the last payment was Dec 2006. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been better to be on the side of America than against them. Russia never looked a great alternative and isn’t now. But to the future. America is diving headlong into constitutional problems that make UKs mess of the last 15 years look like calmness personified. They have a President who is thrashing around like a freshly caught Tuna and a load of dangerous acolytes racketing about with the levers of power with no idea what the consequences of their actions are. The worst - Rubber chops Musk. Who elected him? Nobody. Does he listen to anyone? Doubt it - absolute certainty and arrogance fuelled by his money making success. Money doesn’t make him any less of a dangerous idiot though. The U.K. needs to move away from US ASAP. It’s difficult because in certain aspects the U.K. is deeply embedded with them but the policy should be U.K. first. America is proving it cannot be relied upon so It should gravitate towards Europe and its natural allies such as Canada. Defence? NATO is finished. But without the US the above is still far stronger economically than Russia so ought to be able to resist Putin’s madmen if it has the will. The world is resetting itself and as you point out, sometimes you have to draw a line.

There is a train of thought, that what Musk is doing with the dismantling of various departments (and their funds) and 'capture' of citizens data, like Social Security, Medicare etc to install within his own infrastructure is much more dangerous. It's a silent coup.

I think there's a major element of "de-federalising" the USA. Driving things back down to the state level, where Republicans have much more secure control over large swathes of the country* than they do nationally. A kind of back-door secessionism. * By area and resources, if not population.

Trump Tower Gaza City on 08:10 - Feb 5 by redrickstuhaart | Just watched the video. War criminal Netenyahu sitting there smirking like the nasty little schoolboy who just got the class bully to side with him. If we stand with this atrocity, we compromise our national security for decades to come. We will be a target as much as the US or Israel are. |
I bet he can’t believe his luck. It’s all very depressing. I can’t see us taking a particular stance on it though. Labour seem largely void of principles and direction. We’ll blow around like a sail and see what wind we can catch. Edit - which is all the more reason for us mere plebs to speak out against the war crimes of Israel and America intending to capitalise from them. [Post edited 5 Feb 16:07]

It looks like that EG. The grabbing of control so that Musk and co can do what they think is right. No interference, no red tape, no dead hand. Just get it done starting by removing objection and objectors. Get it done to benefit who first? Hmmmm, let me guess. It is dangerous beyond belief and anyone who has the vaguest idea of history will know where it could end up. As Guthrum points out, Secession in the longer term is a possibility. It’s easy to forget how big and different parts of the US are.

Trump Tower Gaza City on 17:13 - Feb 5 with 1660 views | DJR | It strikes me this is a bit of a smokescreen, maybe presaging, but at the same time trying to lessen the impact of, US permission for Israel to annex parts of the West Bank. Someone on the World Service did mention it had certainly overshadowed the decision to cease the operations of US Aid. But whatever the intention, it clearly indicates that Trump doesn't care about Palestinians, which does seem to give Netanyahu a lot of free rein. [Post edited 5 Feb 17:17]

It will just be his sycophantic Press Secretary I presume. Who will deny he ever said what he said on camera yesterday and then reveal a new cap with "Trump Casino - Gaza City" written on it. And a new meme coin. It's all so depressingly predictable and no-one appears able or wants to stop the crazy fecker

Not sure Trump can be described as predictable. Look at his Gaza plan who could have predicted that.

He’s green-lighting the continued attacks and land grab against the Palestinian people. His words have power whether or not he sees them through. Take this example of a ‘DEI watch list’ targeting mostly black health care workers that’s popped up on the web. Horrendous stuff and must be scaring the crap out of those on it. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/federal-health-workers-terrified-dei-

Trump Tower Gaza City on 08:43 - Feb 5 by DJR | The international rules-based order? My ass. This is Amnesty International's take on the visit. “By welcoming Israeli PM Netanyahu, wanted by the ICC to face charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, the United States is showing contempt for international justice. “Complying with ICC arrest warrants & pursuing accountability in domestic courts is crucial to bring to justice those responsible for Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the continued dispossession and oppression of Palestinians under Israel’s unlawful occupation and system of apartheid.” |
More evidence of the international rules-based order? Israel has informed the United Nations human rights council (OHCHR) it is formally withdrawing from the body. Donald Trump confirmed earlier this week he was withdrawing the US from the OHCHR, as he had done so during his first term in office. [The OHCHR is a department of the United Nations Secretariat that works to promote and protect human rights that are guaranteed under international law and stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948.] [Post edited 6 Feb 13:32]
