Of all the things he has come out with recently, and I probably shouldn't rank them, but this maybe the worst. The idea he can end a deeply bitter conflict by evicting millions of people and building apartments is obscene and absurd.
This could be the end of Nato if the western leaders take the stance they should. And sadly it could rupture the UK/US relationship. And then we have no friends on the world stage. But sometimes you have to draw a line.
But maybe tomorrow he back tracks a bit when his generals say US soldiers will be drawn into a war they cant win. |

There are actually no ‘friends’ on the world stage. Just peoples you can work with or in Americas case as we once did impose your will upon and exploit.
America was never this country’s friend. In fact it is loathed by many of those that even know we exist. Special Relationship? No such thing. There never was. The US would never have entered WW2 if the Japanese hadn’t forced it and Hitler declared war on them. It suited Churchill because he saw the US as a mechanism for winning the war as opposed to just surviving. Everything the US supplied was paid for. Every penny - the last payment was Dec 2006.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s been better to be on the side of America than against them. Russia never looked a great alternative and isn’t now. But to the future.
America is diving headlong into constitutional problems that make UKs mess of the last 15 years look like calmness personified. They have a President who is thrashing around like a freshly caught Tuna and a load of dangerous acolytes racketing about with the levers of power with no idea what the consequences of their actions are.
The worst - Rubber chops Musk. Who elected him? Nobody. Does he listen to anyone? Doubt it - absolute certainty and arrogance fuelled by his money making success. Money doesn’t make him any less of a dangerous idiot though.
The U.K. needs to move away from US ASAP. It’s difficult because in certain aspects the U.K. is deeply embedded with them but the policy should be U.K. first. America is proving it cannot be relied upon so It should gravitate towards Europe and its natural allies such as Canada.
Defence? NATO is finished. But without the US the above is still far stronger economically than Russia so ought to be able to resist Putin’s madmen if it has the will.

It strikes me this is a bit of a smokescreen, maybe presaging, but at the same time trying to lessen the impact of, US permission for Israel to annex parts of the West Bank.
Someone on the World Service did mention it had certainly overshadowed the decision to cease the operations of US Aid.
