Wishful thinking. Trump won by a considerable margin. What he's doing is what the american public want.
He won the electoral college by a significant margin which gets him the presidency under the system.
However amongst all the votes cast, the popular vote, 77.3m Trump, 75.0m Harris, which is certainly not a considerable margin in my view (49.8% vs 48.3%).

How many didn't vote....50 million or so or was it more?

The key to winning the US election is to win the swing states and Trump achieved that - taking all 7. More tellingly as you say, he easily won the electoral college with the biggest margin since Barrack Obama. I think the fact he took all of the swing states is the most telling. The 2024 election was lost by the Democrats more so than won by Trump i think. Their campaign was a mess and badly damaged their chances of a second term.

What MAGA wanted was cheaper eggs and fewer immigrants apparently.
What they've got is food prices soaring, trade wars and an unlimited expansion in visas for skilled migrants because Musk needs the cheap labour

if that's how it works out then, with the right person, the democrats have got a chance in 28. it will also see the current coalition of egotistical loons start to fracture. this all has a long way to go and the idea that trump et al are capable of holding a coherent administration together for four years is laughable. getting fixated on trump's every utterance is a bit pointless.
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

That doesn't really address my point though.
You responded to someone asking when there might be an uprising by saying it won't happen because he won by a considerable margin but when it comes to individuals and the population at large that isn't the case as I pointed out and that is what would be important in an uprising.
Not that I think an uprising is going to happen of course.
I would say the 2024 campaign was won by lies, most of which were unachievable or incorrect and what we are seeing now supports that in my view.

B Movie by Gil Scott Heron touched on this in relation to Reagan.
"Well, the first thing I want to say is: Mandate my ass!
Because it seems as though we've been convinced that 26% of the registered voters, not even 26% of the American people, but 26% of the registered voters form a mandate or a landslide"
And around that time, I recall it being said that only half of those entitled to vote were registered to vote.
This time roughly 90 million out of 245 million people eligible (but not not necessarily registered) voters didn't vote but it does suggest that voter engagement has increased since Reagan.

You've got to admit the Democrats campaign was pretty poor. They never should put Biden forward for a second term. He made an utter fool of himself in the presidential debate. Biden should only have ever been a one-term president and the democrats should have had a strong candidate in place for the 24 election.

Yes, I agree the Democrats made a right hash of it.
However by any reasonable definition Trump made a fool of himself in every interview, rally and speech he gave so making a fool of one's self doesn't seem to be an impediment to being elected.
The democrats really do need to look at themselves but I said by the fact that at a root level the election was won by lies from Trump.
For instance, 42% of Muslims voted for him in the state of Michigan as a protest against Biden as Trump said he would be better and would stop the war and work out a proper peace. In reality this is a lie and by any reasonable metric, Trump's behaviour towards Gaza is far worse than anything Biden or the democrats have done or would do.
That's before you get onto the lies about inflation, prices, cost of living, not threatening other countries, bringing manufacturing back to the US, immigration etc.

This is a good article which suggest it was more than being down to lies.
Anyone seeking to understand the earthquake that has shaken US politics – to the point where a convicted felon, serial liar and twice-impeached former president can return to the White House in triumph, as Trump will do on 20 January – might learn a lot from the disillusioned working-class voters of north-east Ohio.
They tell blunt, profanity-laden stories of watching their city slump ever deeper into decline and express a real bleakness about the future. They see a political class corrupted by big-money donors who, they say, don’t care about communities like theirs.
Few expect Trump to fix everything or believe him when he says he will. What they do believe is that the system is broken and corrupt, just as Trump says it is, and that a candidate who promises to tear it down and start again might just be on to something.
“We just want a change, a change in the weather,” a retired aluminium worker wanting to go just by his first name, Paul, said as he sat with a group of friends in a cigarette shop in Struthers, a down-at-heel overwhelmingly white Youngstown suburb once known for its thick clusters of bars, pizza parlours, strip clubs and illegal gambling joints.
Paul and his friends come to the shop most days not to smoke – smoking is not allowed – but to scratch away at lottery tickets and reminisce about the old days, when a single factory salary could support a whole family and the main drag in Struthers was packed every Friday night with working men flush with their weekly pay packet.

I believe Trump was instrumental in the Israel/Hamas peace treaty? Keir Starmer congratulated him on this so must be the case?

You mean the treaty that he's now disregarding in order to try and remove all Palestinians from Gaza and turn it into a resort?
Why are you mentioning Starmer? Total whatabouterry designed to cause an argument rather than engage with any of the points which have been made. Certainly not something I am going to rise to and hopefully nobody else will either.

Not really. no need to go on the defensive. I am not banging Trump's drum but he said he would stop the war in Gaza, which he has done. You said that was a lie which I dispute.

He hasn't stopped the war, a ceasefire was agreed just prior to him taking office. The war will not stop until the Palestinians are permanently displaced from Gaza, and is likely to spread to the West Bank with Trump's blessing. His foreign policy is being guided by religious fanatics.

All he is done is make things even more dangerous longer term by voicing plans which the countries in the region can't and won't accept whilst emboldening the Israeli right who have left Gaza looking like this:

How awful, and I very much doubt that the materials / funds to rebuild will ever be allowed in to Gaza as long as the Palestinians remain. Trump talking about the devastation whilst standing 3 yards from the chief perpetrator was frankly sickening.

The article is very interesting. I’ve always said that American would be a great place to live, from the very small bits I’ve seen. You can have anything you want. If you have money. If you don’t, it’s a desperate place. You cease to exist after a while. It really is a collection of mini-countries with contrast and opposites within and between them.
What is interesting is that I can understand disillusionment with the Democrats and the appeal of change dressed up in simple messages and persistent lies. That Trump, despite being perceived as an honest liar and criminal feels a better alternative to Biden, Obama and Harris.
Trump will of course do the opposite to his promises and the people featured in the article will finish even worse off, if that’s possible. Still as long as he and his multi millionaire chums benefit in money and control they won’t care.

Pleased to see the Government has put its name to this. Don't think the Tories would have done so because Sunak slammed to ICC arrest warrant for Netanyahu and the Tories haven't in recent years stood up for the rule of law (both national and international).
Starmer (with his respect for the law) deserves credit for this, as does the Attorney General, Richard Hermer (a human rights' specialist), during whose tenure the government removed its opposition to the ICC's arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant.

I'm starting to think (and apologies for the image) that Trump could quite literally cr*p on his supporters' front lawns and they'd thank him for fertilising their grass. He can do no wrong in their eyes. The cognitive dissonance will be off the scale for the next 4 years.

Disturbing to hear Trump double down on the idea of the US taking over Gaza at the weekend. I was hoping this was one of his ‘off rhe cuff’ windbag ideas. Setting the scene for another 100 years of Middle Eastern instability.
