I forgot insurance is compulsory there? It's a choice in my country.

You need to be spending upwards of £1,000 in my view, unless you're lucky.
The second hand car market, especially at the lower end is all over the place at the moment. About a year/18 months ago, you could barely get anything driveable for less than £1,500 but prices have become a bit more sensible recently.
My son got a perfectly usable 2010 Astra with reasonable mileage, long MOT and decent history for £1,500 just after Christmas. | | | |

You know your daughter best, so if she doesn’t do jewellery then you’re probably best avoiding it unless you can find something that’s timeless that she can just keep but not wear (a locket is the best I can come up with, maybe even with pictures of her parents. It’s a cliche but something she may value personally in years to come).
I’d be tempted more with an experience, but that’s me. A really nice night away, or special place she’s wanted to go, etc. Like hospitality at Wembley for our FA Cup final win this year  |  |
