He only had just over 10 mins today, but seeing him live makes you appreciate just how good he is. Ran rings round Coventry in his short cameo

Am sad that his full signing is only tied to our Premier League survival.

Would love to have him fully on the books - especially as Luongo and Morsy run down.

Maybe he’ll be able to play a full 90 minutes one day…

I’m hoping he may have gone unnoticed by prem clubs and we may just be able to keep him…please

Maybe Phil can confirm, but wasn’t there 2 clauses to the permanent option? Mandatory clause in which we have to purchase him if we stay up … and also an optional clause, should we get relegated?

Yes, he’s a very good player. Gifted. I’m not surprised he tore up Coventry.

Where I have concerns is his durability. For the PL he looks a bit lightweight, fragile and unable to last 90 mins. He also fades in and out of games, especially against better opposition.

To be fair, he’s not playing for a very good team by PL standards. So if on the off chance we survive would I keep him? On balance yes, assuming we found nothing better out there. If as is likely we are relegated, he won’t be retained anyway.

He's not 'that' good, he's not so good that there's no chance of us getting him if we go down.

Central Midfield is going to be a big area if relegated, we need to find some successors to Morsy and Luongo

I'm not sure what his ongoing managed injury is, but he never looks particularly lightweight or fragile to me, he seems to go in pretty hard in challenges and rarely looks hurt. I wonder if it's just one of those things which isn't really vulnerable to impact/twist/stretch, but which just always comes on in the latter stages of a game.

If so, he's such a good player - so good at stepping through non-existent gaps and causing havoc in defensive patterns - that I'm quite happy for him to be treated as a 'rotate out at 60 mins' player, along with three of the front four. Bloke's class.

I believe he is, by far our best midfield in a poor premier league side, looks like he could play for a mid table prem team comfortably.

It is amazing how different people view same player. Think cajuste is a cut above the rest. He is strong in the tackle. Easily cruises past players. Good turn of speed and crisp quick passing. Against Southampton he was covering the whole of the midfield on his own.

I like him, but I do think he's been overrated. He's got his trademark turn and forward run but I'm not sure it often to leads to much. Does he offer a goal threat, crossing, is he good with both feet, does he dominate physically? Id argue the answer to those is no.

Don't want this to come across as though I don't rate him, I do and he deserves his place in our team every week at the moment, I just find the amount of adulation he gets slightly over the top.

It will be. I think Morsy will have another season at that level (hope so - nobody likes him so he must be good!) and I can see Cameron Humphreys starting for us. Going to need more than that though and I doubt given his talent, wages, fee etc Cajuste will be here. I’d be happy if he was. I get what others say about him and I’m probably wrong as usual, but I just don’t see him as a week in week out PL starter.

Edit: there’s Jack Taylor of course and I think he’s fine for Championship level.

He strikes me as the sort of player that would go to a top end Championship club had he not already arrived. Would love to keep him, especially if he can start lasting longer. Whether or not we'd use £20 mil on him, I don't know.

Don't know why it's relevant but none of them.

Our other options have different qualities, some of them better than Cajuste, but overall he's our best midfielder...currently.

Think the option to buy fee was £12 mill

If he was keen to stay. That's an OK deal to make even if we go down. There won't be many better in the champ.

Stick a downes next to him and we would be good to go. Even taylor next to him at champ level would be good imo.

It's relevant because you think he is overrated. I think he would be a lot bigger loss than Phillips. I do think we need a different type of player to replace a waning Morsy.

Agree on both those points.

Just think some have gone overboard on Cajuste personally. It's a comment in context of whether or not he returns next season really, not his place in the team right now.
