Anyone on here keep discus I wonder, I’m in the process of setting up a Amazonian biotope, got a huge piece of wood soaking in the bath, tanks on order from Aquatlantis, lights here as is most of the ancillary equipment. Just interested.

Just make sure you take the time to look after it weekly and you'll enjoy it,
Had my take for many years now, absolutely love it, but definitely schedule in your water changes, looking after the tank and it's a really enjoyable hobby

Yes I will do thanks, I had a 500ltr reef tank when in the U.K. a few years back & had good results growing lps & sps corals, water changes etc, I’ve got an r.o. System ready once tanks here to fill, & weekly 25% water changes, the difference being instead of adding salt I will be remineralising for discus.

I don't keep them but I know all about aquatics.
In what seems a previous life I used to import Tropical fish and Koi Carp
If you need any help then PM me.
Discus like a high temperature (circa 82f) and they aren't keen on much company.
Are you having a jungle style and will you be using CO2?
Yes it will be planted but not too heavily, water temperature will be Computor monitored & set at 29deg as in the bath currently with a large piece of mangrove bog wood, tannins coming out nicely. I will have around 375 litres with the sump, I’m acutely aware of stocking levels & bioload I’ve a specialist plant growing light unit, no co2 if I can help it due to ph fluctuations etc & oxygen levels changing which the discus don’t like. Did you have anything to do with Mill Race GC I wonder?

No, I had to email them to see who they were.
We were wholesale only and based in Latchingdon.

one of those that you start off mocking (but quite liking), but then the mocking falls away - classic.
A few of the tunes from that period are a bit like that. I'm thinking Cutty Ranks Limb by Limb etc. You start off thinking what is that crazy fecker on about and then end up screaming Limb by Limb at the wireless.

I've been doing a pond build in my new (not that new now) garden over the last month or so.
Dug the big hole by hand, brick retaining wall, underlay and liner in, filled with water, and built the soil back up against the wall.
Will be getting pump and filter soon, then aim to introduce fish and minimal planting in the spring.
Sticking to smaller fish this time, albeit the pond is bigger than the last one.
Sounds good.
I've got an 8ft aquarium in my office that remains empty after 5 years, I just never get time to finish it. I have set up lighting, filters, sump, CO2 etc but haven't got round to filling it up. I even have the sump connected to the mains so it automatically fills.
I also have a huge supermarket chest freezer outside that I am preparing to breed something in the spring, probably Malawi Cichlids. Because the freezer is insulated it should keep the heat in with just a small aquarium heater powering it. I hope to complete this in the spring.
.......I also have six pretty industrial vats that I was going to link up and grow on about 2000 young koi in but I know that I haven't a hope in hell of completing this before I die.
I'd like to finalise the freezer project though.

That’s on my to do list for this spring. Trouble is, I’ve got a crackpot idea of doing an L-shape. We’ve a c. 6x6’ raised brick planter and I was hoping to run down two sides of that. I’d need to only dig out about a foot to 15 inches, as it’s also on a bit of a slop, and then have a retaining wall built around the outside of it to blend in with the planter (and others in the garden).
Incredibly wasteful for a liner, so I’ve yet to decide if I dare concrete it or even get a welded liner made.
Did you do the brickwork yourself? I’m hopeless, so would probably need to find a brickie.

It will cost you a pretty penny to have a welded liner and you will probably have to use Butyl or EPDM.
Is the brickwork raised and if so is it strong enough to handle the water pressure? If it is then just render it and slap some Aquaseal over it.

That’s the direction I’m heading I think. The wall will be raised by about 2 ft. I’d be super-cautious that it’s strong enough, using block and then face with brick if necessary. I don’t really know yet, as I haven’t started any design. It’ll be simple - no need for drains like a koi setup, as it’s only be for goldfish (front garden, so no security).

I did do the brickwork myself, but the important caveat is that the wall is completely invisible in the final pond! It is perfectly shaped, and dead level at the top, but the pointing would appal a proper brickie.
Pond in 3 stages.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

The pictures don't link property atm so you might want to fix that but I got the images by copying and pasting.
Looks cracking though Dubs, as did your last pond.
Were you tempted to go a bit bigger??
