Palmer's save really was excellent wasn't it? 19:51 - Feb 15 with 1965 views | homer_123 | Just an observation from me. Oddly, that save is the kind of thing Muric does and has done this season. Where Palmer differs is on the more basic, fundamental keeper elements. And it's this we need right now. Today and in the Cup game, we can see those basics in play and I'd say we've already seem a bit more confidence from our back line as a result. A solid performance from Palmer with a quality save to boot. He's not the messiah (or a naughty boy) but he earned his corn today and guaranteed a hard fought, deserved point. Muric would do well to study him (and Walton).

I really don't know how he got that, what a save! Was he intending to push it that side though? Couldn't tell if he intentionally pushed it round the post or just got very lucky?

He's not bad with his feet but fundamentally he's there to organise his back line, saves shots and command his box.

The irony is, he actually looks better with his feet, he has already provided a few Ederson style balls over the top that have lead to us having some dangerous attacking plays on just the 2 games he has played. Shot stopping amazing, just looks more composed all around. Slight error with charging out but on your premier league debut will forgive that.

Small thing I noticed too. When he played some short balls to greaves. He played the ball away from greaves to jog onto rather than at greaves to control and deal with under pressure. Felt like they were excellent passes to make.

Feared the worst with charging out like that but great to see that error didn’t play on his mind

I thought his save from Asensio (?) was the best of the lot.

They didn’t no, i was watching on tv and it probably wasn’t as bad as what it looked like for people at the game as striker was no where where close to putting a foot in and it done him completely. Found our keeper atlast.

Joe Hart said on MOTD 'that's a keeper who is desperate not to let anyone get past him, no matter what'. I guess when you play with that mentality, that's when you get a hand to those usually unsaveable shots and make your own luck. It was a brilliant save, but if you look at the spin on the ball after it hit his hand, it does look to be lucky, more than him directing the shot over and around the post. Not to take anything away from the save. It was superb, and many keepers wouldn't have got near it.

We did: Szmodics, Philogene, Jack Clarke, Phillips, O'Shea, Greaves, Tuanzebe, even Muric - all players with experience of doing well at lower levels (or in the Prem/International), same as Palmer. Not all have worked out and some have been sidelined by injury, but we hired them for precisely those same qualities.
