I don't see where he's said we've spent money so should be ahead of others. It's more that with the money spent you'd have expected us to get better results as the season progressed and for things to get better as the season progresses rather than worst.
Might be a painful read for some but it's pretty spot on.

Why would you expect that progression? Injuries have disrupted us so we haven't benefited from a settled side that has had the chance to improve.

Can't argue with some of the numbers though, Saturday Spurs xg 1.62 scored 4. Coaching Defending is not a McK strength, last season only got away with having the 7th best goals against by scoring a lot more. | |

This is a poorly constructed article weakly referencing statistics, including one which is partially subjective, to criticise us.
Any half decent journalist could have written something about lack of consistent line-up, poor goalkeeping recruitment or lack of clear cut chances which would have had more substance and insight. |  | | |

A little harsh in relation to the fact that our £130 spend was upgrading and entire championship side whereas other PL sides who spent less would have just been adding to a squad that is already a PL one so there’s a big difference there .
I do however agree that we should have more points than we have and are way too easy to score against as we have been all season ! I do think we will go back up next season however and won’t be a Luton. | | | |

Results wise, he’s right. Performance wise, I’m not so sure. When considering the teams we’ve played twice and how we performed in both:
Fulham - second better than first… just
Brighton - second better than first, until they took the lead
Manchester City - first better than second
Liverpool - first better than second
Southampton - second better than first
Aston Villa - first better than second, but only due to circumstances
Spurs - close, but I don’t think there was much drop off between the two if at all
Other than against Manchester City and Liverpool I’d say we just about equalled if not bettered our performances from the first games. But maybe the opposition are being slightly more clinical. The concern, as raised elsewhere, is we do seem to concede in similar ways each time. | |

Because there seem to be so many posters almost gleefully posting any old bit of negative rubbish at the moment. Whether they're told-you-sos, budgie trolls or just pathetically willing to surrender at the first sign of trouble I don't know, but it's utterly gutless and it makes me sick.
We might all need to be in the trenches soon, so I'd like to see a little more courage displayed, ffs!

Might have expected to do better in defence with Premiership experience brought in (which are both dissapointing so far) We consistantly seem static and ignore runners into the box, we have given away several completely unnecessary penalties, When we have looksd defensively solid the next game is all change at the back. When defenders have had a good performance they have been randomly replaced. The two goalies for the first half of the season have been simply poor So to say we have been nieve defensively is a massive understatement. Given we have weeks training between matches I am dissapointed how suicidal our defending has been especially on some of the late Gung ho performances where we were holding onto points. |  |
