Fulham tonight innit 11:45 - Feb 25 with 1807 views_clive_baker_

I know we're going down irrespective of what happens tonight, but I'd quite like to prolong the agony a bit more. Would be nice if we could host Wolves knowing a win would put us within a couple of points.

They are one of the last teams I'd want to rely on for a result right now. They have this godawful knack of doing enough to stay clear of the drop by the New Year, then they're on the beach by Feb/March. Must be quite boring/repetitive as a fan.

And we've already played them twice. Sucks.

Should've done them away as well. And home for that matter.

That away game and specifically the Clarke shot is 'the' moment things could have truly been different from.

Would've been two wins on the spin and who knows what from there.

B*gger.

Yeah that was hooge. A 2-0 home win against Chelsea then 3-1 away win at Fulham before Bristol Rovers in the cup, would've been a lovely bounce for future games. Just the 1 point in 6 since then. Even if that was still true the 2 extra points would be handy right now.

So many fine margins this season. If we'd replaced Muric at the start of January rather than the end I suspect we'd have probably beaten Saints.

If Fulham beat Wolves and we beat United - it would be a two point gap (and 10 points off United).

Big IFs, and survival is unlikely, but its not impossible.

What I'd like us to do as a team is improve, go out with a real flourish, and build some points, pride and confidence for our next return... be well above Leicester.

Lets enjoy the ride, rather than let it spiral. Fan backing always key.

But would replacing Muric have made that much difference? If he had played on Saturday the score wouldn't have been any worse, because the defence makes far too many simple errors, losing men, poor concentration, and positioning, every game, and combined with a lack of leadership at the back without Burgess, we're always going to concede soft goals.

Our backline gave our keeper absolutely no chance on Saturday and it's been like that all season.

Sadly, it's more likely that we'll be 8 points behind come tonight.

Agree re: backing (at the games) - but I fear maintaining the atmosphere is only going to get harder the further adrift we get.

I think as long as the home fans see endeavour and some improvement that may stick with it. Need that first win of 2025 - that should just be the near-term goal.

Away fans have been sensational all season.

It was inferred on TalkSport last night that if Wolves win to make the gap 8 points, it'd be the nail in the coffin for us and Leicester. They might well be right if we don't get a win at Old Trafford.

You could argue in some ways that our home game against them was a what if as well. It was (for all intents and purposes) our first game of the season if you take away the City and Liverpool games.

Holding on to that lead, or bettering it, could have been this seasons version of Wilnis v Man Utd.

If my auntie had chuddies...

The "best" chance is probably just to maintain the current gap until we play Wolves. Beat them at PR to do the double over them and we're then within striking distance, and I do think our May fixtures look alright (relatively speaking) against sides who could be on the beach.

With that in mind if they lose tonight it would be nice, makes our game tomorrow a free hit which as crap as United are I still give us a 1/10 chance of getting a win there.

Without a doubt! Yes in theory it would be possible, but in practice it just doesn't happen. We've not been quite good enough all season and performances/results have been flatlining for a while so I see nothing to suggest things are going to change now.

Before Brighton our PPG had ticked up and had we continued that sort of level we'd have been OK. But we lost and despite fine words from the manager and players everything has been very mediocre since.

Essentially, we need one week where we do better than Wolves by two or three points to close that gap a bit - just make them have to keep working and fretting a bit.

Looks less likely as the weeks go on but....

Fulham are the definition of a flaky team.
Wolves battered them at Craven Cottage earlier this season.
Fulham will have one eye on the FA Cup game this weekend as they haven't ever won a proper trophy in their 110 year history.

I agree. Seems petty perhaps but I'd like us not to be put in the same bracket as Leicester and Southampton if and when we go down, so finishing above both comfortably would be nice.

I guess Southampton are out on their own already in terms of how bad they are (despite the fact they beat us), and the wider view from fans/media does reflect this, but Leicester are on par (obviously in terms of points) so while that's the case we'll be grouped together.

We've had more plaudits than them throughout the season and they're obviously a bit of a mess off the pitch, so it would be nice to prove we are better than them when it comes to the final points tally.
