It’s quite clear that Trump kind of convinces himself of his own lies or the lies of his toadies that fit with his scattered thoughts. He certainly seems to have a few loose slates. In other words, unhinged.
Edit: The orange ogre seems fixated with the term ‘deal’. It’s bizarre given his idea of a deal with Ukraine is basically blackmail because they can’t do anything about it. When Bonnie and Clyde went into a bank and robbed it at gunpoint was that a ‘deal’? Trump-logic says yes.

We've grown up expecting our leaders to say things, which they mean, Trump has rewritten that model. He basically will say the opposite to what he aims to do simply to get a reaction. There is a feeling he deliberately called Zelensky a dictator to put him on the back foot and help force an agreement. But then everyone reacts to the fact he's used that word, and as he used it, he must mean it.
In my working days, years ago, I went into a very successful company, and the owner used that approach. Called me a useless c""t within the first few seconds of meeting him. Before I could say I've not been here previously, he said 'don't use that excuse you've not been here before, others from your company have, and haven't fixed it, and if they're useless that by default makes you useless'
The people who worked for him said that's his deliberate approach, put you on the back foot immediately, he doesn't mean it, but by having a go at you, you get angry and you're immediately starting to react differently.
That wanhker Piers Morgan made the point a few days ago, he's known Trump for over 20 years and the one key thing he's discovered about Trump is ignore his words, just focus on his actions.
