Are we allowed to criticise Delap yet? 16:46 - Mar 8 with 2510 viewsNeedhamChris

We just can't afford to keep persisting with the Delap show.

He will be a wonderful player when he learns to be part of a team, but sadly that won't be with us

It will only get worse as the likelihood of us staying up gets slimmer, from his POV why not try to if all yourself and put yourself more in the shop window.

Yep. Almost at the point of saying it’ll be good to just cash in £40m in the summer. Rebuild up front in the summer. Such poor decision making.

What about Omari? Took all the attacking impetus out of us when he came on, slows the game down and let's elite defenders get back in to position before trying to beat them unsuccessfully.

I don't think it helps he is consistently having different wingers/no.10s behind him. He hasn't built a proper relationship with anyone.

The issue is what did Hirst do on Monday to prove that he deserves to take his place.

As you say, he will be a wonderful player. He is already at Premier League standard, which is more than can be said for most of our signings. But he still has a lot to learn, and his decision making is a key part of that.

What? This is completely the opposite of what I observed. Hutch coming on made a positive difference.

Inclined to agree with the OP on Delap though. After doing so much first half of the season, I honestly think his value is dropping with each goalless game.

H e would so much better in a two. He would have to inter-play with the other striker. It would improve his game

I don't think his value will drop much - teams know what he can do and in a bigger side he would have similar/more quality around him.

Agree on Hutch, although he needs some more confidence.

Omari was decent when he came on. Not sure how he could do much more. Was more effective than Jack Clarke and Jaden.

He did more than Philogene in 30 seconds.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

OK, you seem to be desperately trying to take Frimmers crown (and in fairness to Frimmers he's been much better since his return).

Delap is still exceptionally young for a main centre forward and is clearly still learning.

He has all the raw materials but obviously won't be brilliant every game.

Singling him out for criticism seems crazy.

There you go.

brb, looking for all the threads you started when Delap was single-handedly unlocking defences, rather than taking the usual opportunity to whinge and be self-righteous when he didn't.

At times it's starting to look a little like he's frustrated our midfield can't shoot and often don't even try, so he does rely on himself more than he ought to. But who can blame him.

I have engaged. I've asked if he is this week's pick. He's a a 22 year old striker in his first season in the Prem and doing really well. He isn't perfect. And each week we lose we have to find someone to blame. It's embarrassing.

Actually asking are we allowed to criticise yet? Which is deliberately phrases to get people's backs up to be honest (or showing a complete lack of awareness if not). Why phrase it like that. Why couldn't you perhaps give your ideas on why playing Hirst might take some pressure off him and some coaching during game around link up play.

We lost but we did ok today. We are competing but we are falling short. We win the game with the chance just before and you don't come on here with this.

That's my opinion. I hope this was engagement enough.

Because it's a narrative driven post.

If anything Delap did better at linking up play today, it was noticeable yet you single out the few times a striker in a confident patch took a shot.
