By the way that was deserved based on 2023 & 2024 but a drop is needed based on huge revenue decreases surely. Ditto all of the players.

A chunk of the big number talked about he gets if we stay up otherwise it’s still obviously a very big number which drops on relegation. Same with Ashton and others too - their compensation is based very much on success.

Achievement in 2023 & 2024 should have been rewarded by big bonuses for that achievement not by a big basic pay increase to someone with no managerial experience of the highest league whatsoever. Reward achievement not just participation.

Would imagine so but 9 months ago people were clamouring to keep him at all costs. That’s the element of risk taken with a young manager with only coaching experience at the top level. I still think £6m (or £25m if he sees his contract out) remains a good investment considering the returns he has given the club will be in excess of £250m even if we fail to stay up and remain in the champs for next 3 seasons. The club has been revitalised under his management and despite the fact we are almost certain to be relegated the quality of squad we have now (and likely next season) is hugely improved on the crap we’ve had to watch for the previous 20 years. The main problem is that the success and momentum generated in the last 2 seasons gave people expectation that we had a good chance to stay in the PL, it was always going to be a huge challenge but the fact we have been close in a lot of games shows how far we have come. Both Southampton and Leicester had stronger squads and more PL experience but have been worse than us, showing quite how massive the gap between PL and Champ is. I’m disappointed to have been close in so many games, but this represents a huge step forward and if people fail to see how much the club has moved forward, even in relegation, then I question how realistic were their expectations. We have improved, developed and learned from this season, and I for one will not judge whether this season has been a complete failure until Sept/Oct as that will be the measure for me. In the top 6 will be acceptable and the target should be top 2. Lifting the spirits and rebuilding for a promotion push will tell us how good McKenna is. [Post edited 9 Mar 9:50]

True in a commercial sense but in professional sport you pay big on potential over mid term to secure your assets else risk losing them to competitors.

So don't stand in his way when he had the opportunity to go to Palace and then Brighton. Both clubs simply found alternative previously unknowns from Europe who are doing good jobs for them. We could have done the same.

It a cycle, it’s almost impossible now to be out of the premier league for years then return and stay there, unless you have Man City like backing. Hopefully we keep the base we have now and get promoted from the champ, then add again for another prem campaign. This club is transformed under Kmac and like you say worth every penny, unfortunately I still think he won’t be here next season.

Just like last couple of seasons our most important asset to keep next season will be McKenna. Might be tough. He will get us up again next season and we will be progressively stronger. Any new manager is a massive gamble and we've built a squad to fit McKenna plans. He's absolutely top class whilst still continuing to learn. In my opinion Brighton under McKenna are at least as high with him. I like their manager as well. We'll run club as are we.

McKenna does have senior managerial experience at Prem level. Assistant to Mourinho, Solskjaer and Rangnik at ManU, plus running Youth teams at Prem clubs. It's fine if we didn't want to tie McKenna to the club for this season and possibly beyond. But who would have taken that position last summer? Almost nobody.

"Senior managerial experience" At Manu he was a coach never a manager as you well know. "Almost nobody" the market for managers has changed since we were last in the PL. Europe, if not the world is our oyster.

Palace's "previously unknown" manager won the Europa league with Frankfurt. He was appointed in February 2024, when we were in the Championship. There's a reason we paid top dollar to keep McKenna around - it got us promoted. The idea that we could just easily pick up another one of the best young managerial prospects in Europe is total fantasy.

The most important thing in transforming the club is the previous owner selling to a group with more money than our club has ever seen and access to more money continuing. Face it, if we didn't have that, KM wouldn't have touched us with a bargepole.

I'm undecided on 'improved' as a team but there has certainly been individual improvements in players and what we have done is given a lot of inexperienced young players with masses of potential Premier League experience - they will be significantly stronger for the experience moving forward in my opinion and when he next return to the division will know what to expect. I expect Delap and Davis will be off, but many of the squad we have no will undoubtedly be key players in the Championship next season and potentially in the Premier League the season after - we're well ahead of schedule right now, as disappointing as the season has been there's undoubted positives that won't become apparant until around October next season and beyond.

Last season we scraped ourselves over the line - very impressively, it has to be said - in a far, far worse league. Yes, we played some incredible football at times and got some great results, but if we had beaten Spurs and Chelsea, and drawn with United in the cup, we'd have been lauding KM as the greatest manager ever. Anyone who didn't expect this season to go exactly as it has, is a mentalist. We were always favourites to go down. As it happens, we're not rock bottom where the bookies and most neutral fans would've had us, and we're still in with a chance of staying up (albeit a very, very slim one). All of this against a shocking injury list that we didn't have to compete with last year. This team is infinitely better than last season.

Yes 100%. We are just playing a better opposition. We have hit levels this season far in advance of what we did last season, we are just doing against teams who are light years ahead of anything we have come up against before. That is what being a newly promoted team in the this Premier league landscape is. [Post edited 9 Mar 13:08]

Wow! Definitely glad you aren't involved in running the club. That was the Marcus Evans way. Keep it cheap, can always sack and try again. Eventually find a manager ho can halt the slide and stick with him whilst drying up the funding and it becomes increasingly stale. There is clearly a balance between making sure the club doesn't over-extend itself but to place no value on a highly successful asset is madness.
