JP 19:08 - Mar 15 with 3806 views | textbackup | A collective of professionals sat down and made Philogene a target, and paid £22m for him. And continues to start games, despite being consistently weak and poor. Am I missing something with him? I hope so, and I hope someone can point it out to me.

You’d like to think that IF we were to bounce straight back up that everyone would sit down and go over what/who not to buy for a decent crack at staying up. As this lot just don’t have the qualities to be even close to keeping us up.

They physically haven’t got it. Too slight. So, even if they did well for us next season and we got promoted again, they really aren’t the future in the premiership.
JP on 19:15 - Mar 15 with 3004 views | vapour_trail | To make matters worse, the warning signs were there from his time at Villa, where Emery clearly didn’t fancy him, and the club concluded they’d made a mistake in the summer. Bet they couldn’t believe their luck when we more than covered their losses.

Physicality is so important now. All these guys are athletes. Even someone like Phillips lacks the physicality now for the Premier, yet he was more than adequate a few years ago. We had not learnt the lesson when we went back in for Philogene. A mistake I think. How many wingers/10s do we need.

Yes of course, unfair to expect him to be our saviour when he’s clearly not ready for the PL. Begs the question, when in a battle to stay up, why did the powers that be opt for that signing. (We all know it’s purely with an eye on next season, I’m sure)

JP on 19:27 - Mar 15 with 2741 views | LankHenners | The first thing I'd say is that the idea he's been 'consistently weak and poor' is just rubbish really. Think he's looked better game on game playing in an unfavoured position because needs must/McKenna doesn't rate the other options. Not to say he's been brilliant but the reality of it is he's another player playing in this league for the first time and taking time to get used to it. Not much help to us now obviously but think it was a deal that became available to do so we jumped on it as he's a player we've admired for a while and think will be good for us. Think it's fair to say our track record on those types of deals is pretty good. Feel for him a bit as people have just taken a dislike to him for whatever reason and he'll have to do a lot just to shift that opinion a bit all because football fans are really bad at seeing things with any perspective.

If we were to bounce up again with the current squad, not loans, who would realistically be worth keeping if we were serious about staying up? Some will be too old for the season after next anyway. I’d say I’d only rate Wolfenden, Delap and at a push Hutchinson as worth keeping as a Premier League side. Palmer, Muric, O’Shea, Greaves, Jack Clarke, Philogene, Szmodics, and Co are not good enough for the Premier League, it’s painfully obvious.

I would guess it’s something along the lines of struggling to bring in PL quality in Jan but taking an opportunity that arose to get in a player they’ve been after for a while whilst they could. He’s been acquired for the future without question and that’s in the Championship now.

I don’t think you can start Hutch, Philogene and Encisco in the starting 11 - all very good players but they looked so lightweight today, all 3 brushed off the ball with ease.

It would help if our CBs with ball at feet at least tried to pass to JP., No evidence of that in the first half at least.

I'll just say Dane Scarlett was in the England u21s when he came on loan............! Being serious, he's clearly got something, and i'm sure he'll be good in the Championship, but he's not looked good in the PL since coming, despite a few goals.

JP on 22:24 - Mar 15 with 1868 views | BloomBlue | Football is 90% confidence. He returned to Villa and then basically he was kicked out by them, confidence must get hit in that situation. He then joins Town, a squad of players with low confidence, probably not the best move for a player lacking confidence. I'm sure, well OK I'm hopeful, he will be an asset eventually. But you do have to ask the question, if Emery felt he isn't ready for the Prem at the moment why did we buy him.

You're way off with your last comments. He's just been poor, it's not any more complicated than that. He's clearly lacking confidence, which I obviously have sympathy for and that has a big impact. He just shouldn't be in the side, that's on KMc.
