I like the Dove. Good selection of beer, the staff are nice. It’s too full at the weekend, though.
Agree the food is rustic, but that’s OK – it’s better than somewhere more chain-like, like The Cock and Pie. The balti shepherd’s pie has a good vegan version. |  | | |

It's a wet sales-led pub. Food menu is limited, but it is home-cooked and soaks up the ale very well.
It's the one place I'll drink Abbott these days, as it is served straight from the cask, and actually has flavour. Always a dark beer on, usually a mild too, plus various sensible options and often something 6%+. Decent keg range too, plus craft bottles & cans. |  | | |

The Kool Katz walk up the road a little bit to The Fat Cat and order an Indian or Chinese from across the road and eat at the table with a fine array of draft ales & lager options available to the discerning customer.
I do like The Dove.

It never ceases to amaze me that the Silver Star is still open when pubs are closing willy nilly.
I haven't been in for a long time but it was pretty ropey back in ye goode olde days and it hasn't improved any from the outside.
