…and launch the Delap attack with half an hour or so to go?

Possibility?

I wondered the same, especially since those usually rolled out for the pre-game presser are included in the starting XI...

Not sure why we would do that. We hadn't played for 17 days and Delap, 22 years old, looked fresher again on Wednesday and played only 70 minutes.

We hadn't played for 17 days, but Delap had played twice for the 21s...

Although it would seem strange to rest your top scorer in a must-win game, unless he's carrying/nursing a knock.

Fair point I hadn't considered that. He didn't look very tired on 70 mins from what I could see so I will still be surprised.

He was excellent on Tuesday so why would we do that?

Far more effective than Hirst was when he came on.

I would be surprised but we will see I guess.

That’s not what has happened.

I was wondering that myself, mainly because Delap is only one yellow card away from a ban.

I think Wolves will try to get him booked, if they can. It'll be on their list of match objectives.

What difference does the ban make?

If we don't win this match then it's finished for the season.

I am finding some of the reasoning on this thread quite strange.

I can't see it. Delap is our best player and biggest threat so would be strange to drop him for a game we absolutely have to win.

We're going to need to win more than just today's game, and having Delap for every game increases the chances of that happening.

So bring on as a sub today and against Chelsea and then he can come back in for the rest of the season.

If Hirst starts I'd like it to be alongside Delap rather than instead of him. But, other than fitness concerns, I can't see why we would change the line up from Wednesday.

I'd like to see the same team that started against Bournemouth start again. Broady should be in our starting line up and Omari (if fit) used as an impact sub.

OP: I've been saying this for ages, ( since Hirst returned). It's so frustrating that he's not tried this, and / or both in the team for the last 30mins, especially given Delaps biggest threat was during first half of the season, when clubs hadn't sussed his game out. They have now, and we ( McKenna) needs to adapt.
Delap is a hrlluca talent but he's nowhere near the finished article in his all round game.

There us a fine line is t there you be drawn between making some changes / adaptations, and keeping some kind of continuity. Its not easy, I appreciate that.

For today, I'd be keeping the same team, and definitely not be changing that back four. But at some point innthesecremaing games he has to be playing Delap and Hirst in the same team at the same time. What the hell have we to lose now?

That's treating all games equally which isn't the case.

If we lose today Wolves move 12 points clear and the rest is the games don't matter. Winning today is vital.

Context is important and thus I do understand the issue around the bookings cutoff but I just don't think we can risk it. The season could be gone today and then the bookings is irrelevant.

Bingo!

One game at a time, and we need to win this for the following games to have relevance (unless Wolves have a melt down, which is unlikely)

I think this is a matter of opinion. I do understand the argument you're making though.

I think you could also argue it the other way - and say that the difference in quality between Delap and Hirst isn't as big a drop as the difference between the Chelsea/Arsenal defences and the Wolves one.

Winning today is only vital if we follow it up with winning the vast majority of our games. If we win today and Delap is banned then I think we're done for anyway.

So we should leave out our best striker from a 6-pointer must win game to increase our chances of beating Chelsea & Arsenal? Doesn't compute for me.
