Why are we so crap at home 18:18 - Apr 5 with 2745 viewstrncbluearmy

Crowd are supportive, pitch is perfect, no audible moans and groans,
when we get forward the crowd react positively,
the atmosphere is far better then most if not all the away grounds in the prem.
Before the game the Town is up for it

God only knows. They really need to sort this out, maybe the build up to the matches. However I see now experts say players are not supposed to be hyped up but more even keeled to nor raise anxiety and adrenaline levels. Seriously though, its actually a problem and its cost us literally, financially and figuratively. Look at Nottingham Forest, they really rock that joint and their home form kept them up.

We've been generally OK in the first half, but the opposition teams have the quality and players to change things in the second half, and we don't have the quality or players to do the same.

Maybe it's a weight of expectation after being away from top league action since 2002. Perhaps the players are nervous or tentative to go out and perform, take on the biggest names that are available in the English soccer league structure.

Maybe it's the demand to provide fulfilment to 30,000 people each near and every time whereas before we'd be looking to fill half that number in lower league. There's a greater expectation to provide a certain duty to the fans. Perhaps the players we possess this season don't have the means to meet that criteria.

Our home support yesterday was an embarrassment. The crowd get nervous rather than really getting behind the team. This was our chance to make our home support count, a relegation 6 pointer and it was all over the shop, 70% of the people in lower North do not sing and should not be in that stand if it is our singing stand.

If Block A is now our singing stand, it just does not work, you cannot hear Block A if you sit opposite them, all you can hear is the away fans, so on days like yesterday we have singers spread across Block A, lower north left and lower north right, it just does not work. The only time it works is when the whole ground sings but that is rare at Portman rd.

But lets face it, Wolves players wanted it much much more than we did both on and off the pitch, it was not a quality mismatch it was a fight mismatch.

Funny old bunch some of the town fans at home, yet get away from PR and they go for it regarding singing.

As for Wolves they have far better stronger, more settled experienced players at this level.

It’s not rocket science is it.

WTF are you on about re the crowd?

The North (upper and lower) made loads of noise pre game and in the first half yesterday. Unsurprisingly the noise reduced in the second half as the on pitch performance was woeful, but looking to (repeatedly) blame the crowd is a bit a of weird flex.

Atmosphere was really poor throughout the game- whatever may be done pre match is not translating into when the first ball is kicked at 3pm

Maybe the players and staff just not good enough at this level. Everyone says McKenna speaks well.
Don't remember Clough or Robson coming out with today's boll**ks.

But both evolved into progressive club managers - If both were young managers now then they would be fully embracing of modern football.

We’ve not exactly been ripping it up away from home. Fine margins and they’ve just gone for us a couple more times away from home than at Portman Road.

A last minute winner at Wolves, poor finishing by Spurs and arguably our best away performance of the season at Bournemouth are why we have won 3 away games. Leicester, Fulham, Man U and a couple of other home games could very easily have gone our way. The draws at Brighton and Villa were very fortunate. More often than not, based on chances, those games are lost by 2 or 3. The same problems we have at home have been evident away - Brentford and Fulham immediately spring to mind.

VAR has also diminished home advantage. Major decisions are less influenced by crowd reactions and so the atmosphere in the stadium has less bearing on the outcome of the match.

We’ve just not been good enough this season. No shame in it, I’ve got more pride in our club now than for many, many years. The sooner everyone realises that our relegation was not something that could realistically have been avoided, the sooner we can regain the positivity and look forward to next season.

Footballers are human, what's that saying about football is 90% confidence, 10% ability (ok I probably have that saying incorrect).
The pressure at home gradually increased on the players as we failed to win a game, that has to hit their confidence. You only have to look at the reaction of players & staff when we won our 1st game at Spurs to understand the pressure of not winning.
As the season has progressed that pressure builds, even though we did beat Chelsea. The confidence goes and players then stand on the ball and play the safe pass rather than try something different.
Wolves have been on a run of results which has contained wins and draws, that breeds confidence. Against West Ham in midweek they were trying crazy flicks, long passes from the first minutes ie total confidence. Yesterday was perfect for them even they had lost it wasn't the end of the world, a draw was a good result. They were playing without any fear.

That lack of confidence flows into the stands, 2nd half when Wolves were seeing more of the ball the stands go quiet, fans lack the confidence.

As I keep saying our season mirrors Burnley's from last season. Mgmt, players talking about learning, trying harder, not giving up, but ultimately their confidence was shot, same as ours.

Because we haven't adapted to this league in any way shape or form is the simple answer. It's the same thing every week pretty much.

Additionally, the team spirit and confidence has gone and our momentum is now a downwards one.

Furthermore, our signings Delap and maybe Hutch aside have not been premier league quality yet we play like we are that is why we get beat. We need to grind out results and learn the dark arts that every other team we play uses to their advantage rather than rely on scoring more than you which will rarely happen at this level.

Personally given what we have seen, 1 win all season, the worst home season ever I think the fans have been great. Look at Leicester for example.

...I dont know why. Maybe we try to attack more at home ( leaving ourselves opening to the counter attack more,) but away, tend to sit deeper and soak up pressure better , because we're sitting deeper?
