At least we are now in the best position we are ever likely 08:07 - Apr 6 with 1043 viewshomer_123

to be to bounce back.

We now know what the gap is like. As a club therefore it's easier to see what we need to do.

Whilst we haven't been a million miles away from being competitive our overall quality and depth isn't there and that's no surprise really.

The basis is there for a very good squad, we will see several leave and I think a fair few arrive for next year's push.

I'm gutted and disappointed for this season but ultimately the table doesn't lie.

I'm not despondent about the future.

We go again.

I had a little dabble on the WOTB - after their result yesterday on commented that the silver lining was our loss and pretty certain relegation. One response was ‘yes silver lining Ipswich getting relegated having spent £140m.’
They’re pretty quiet about us and rightly so, we’ll be a force next season. Just running through the Championship goals and assists from last season, a lot of fire power and despite any sales we’ll be looking to strengthen further.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I think there is an awful lot to do to be honest. We have an embarrassment of riches for next year even allowing for departures.

But explain please how we turn Philogene/Clarke/Broadhead/Hirst/Szmodics/Chaplin/Burns/Ogbene/Hutchinson into a happy and functioning attack? Yes I know we need cover and a bench but I am thinking from the player's perspective as those not starting will not be happy as all have shone in the Championship previously.

We need two centre mids plus a striker to bed in to this as well. Sorry but I don't think Taylor or Humphries are the answer, although not seen the latter play this year so give him the benefit of the doubt. We also need to find a way to get the Blackburn Szmodics firing especially as Delap will be gone and Hirst likely injured at some point.

All of what was great in L1 and the Championship has gone (style of play, resilience, partnerships on the pitch, team spirit, momentum). and we need to get this back.

Of course on paper we should walk it but there is an awful lot of work to be done in the summer in my opinion and other than Delap and maybe Hutchinson I don't see us getting money back on any signings.

Delap sale will see us break even Hutchinson plus parachute gives us some money to spend. Personally I feel squad has changed too much we need only 3 or 4 signings to freshen things up 2/3 in midfield 1/2 up front. Defensively we should be ok, really don't see anyone buying Davis but would be more than happy with Townsend. Maybe an U21 player or Humphries may emerge?

This year was in some ways a 'free hit' even though I hate that term, assuming McKenna stays he has possibly his toughest test ahead and needs to get a team ready to hit the ground running for August 7th.

However, above everything else this ridiculousness against the scum HAS to come to an end next season, it's way beyond a joke now.

Spot on. We’ve taken 10 steps forward and are now taking 1 back to move forward again. If we’d missed out last season and gone up this season we’d be where we are now in 2026.

I think we can be reasonably confident it won't take 22 years this time

Not sure where you get this break even idea from. The amount spent on transfers this year gets spread for accounting purposes across the length of the players contracts. With the parachute payments we’ll be financially strong next year, although of course Delap being sold will give us more financial muscle for sure

You say that now.

What happens if theres a ‘will he won’t he stay’ situation drag on for KM into late June, early July (which I can see happening, he’ll want to look after number one, which I’ve no problem with but it doesn’t help us)

Players being sold and needing replacing, the manager uncertainty will create doubt.

Have a horrible feeling we won’t hit the ground running next season.

We’ll be good again... one day
