Next season signings 22:04 - Apr 5 with 2222 views | Jack27 | So…let’s assume we’re down. Delap will go for £40m and we have parachute payments. Would anyone else jump ship? Who replaces Delap? Does Kieran go back in for Broja? Would he even come to the Championship? The difference next season is that we’re signing players for a PL return. Will Cajuste stay? Downes will go down with Southampton - will we renew our interest? Ben Doak from Liverpool was linked…and McKenna doesn’t lose interest in players he likes…but the figures quoted would be beyond us as a Championship club I feel.

There will be a load wanting him so 40m would Be a minimum and the winner will be highest bidder surely?

More recent rumours a relegation clause but anyone's guess. I think if we are relegated anywhere between £40-50 million would be likely honestly. Less than if we stayed up. I do think Omari is likely to be in demand despite what some others think and Davis Also though the bids might not match what we want. As much as I think he'd be decent in the champ I think if we can move on Johnson for a few million and remove the wages that would be good business as we are well stocked in that area. Likewise Muric (a hard sell now unfortunately). I'm not feeling too down tonight. I'm genuinely looking forward as a fan to enjoying football in the champ next season.

It’s quoted as a relegation release clause. Ashton wouldn’t really speak about it (as you’d expect) but said we’re well protected. McKenna was asked about it but skilfully avoided answering. There’s almost certainly some truth to it.

Why would they want to talk about it? Would you want your manager to talk about your work contract publicly with the outside world?

I think Omari would flourish at a Bournemouth for example, I think we’ll recoup what we paid and he’ll go. Davis I’m not sure about, his chance creation stats are great but I’m not sure a team desperate for a LB would go for him. Honestly just rip Muric’s contract up if we can’t sell him.

In my defence, I wasn’t saying they should be talking about it - I was answering the previous poster. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

….watched him quite a lot this season and he looks every inch a League One striker.

Hate to agree but think Hutch will go to a 'mid table' side and likely back to Chelsea in the future. We need a sell on clause. Would be amazed if anyone buys Davis, sorry but he's been a huge disappointment this year defensively and offensively. Muric will have to be sold at a huge loss unless we agree a pay off as we can't afford 4 keeps at Championship level.
Next season signings on 10:49 - Apr 6 with 962 views | OldFart71 | I know there's a bit of a ground swell when it comes to resigning Downes but in my opinion it hardly ever works resigning a player. When you look at most teams that are successful in the Premier league they have strong athletic players and we shouldn't be buying English players to replace those that will leave. The job in hand isn't easy as most of our midfield will go. Phillips, Cajuste and Loungo. That leaves Morsy who will no doubt pick up suspensions, isn't now quick enough and Taylor who hasn't nailed down a place in two seasons. We cannot afford to let players like O'Shea, Hutchinson, Delap and Davis to all go as it will lead to what we have seen this season where it takes a long time to get the team to gel with too many changes.

Next season signings on 10:51 - Apr 6 with 944 views | wrightsrightglove | Delap going is a given, I would imagine Omari and Davis will also go. Those three should give us enough income to retain everyone else we want to keep and strengthen where needed. Out: Delap, Omari, Davis, Muric (European loan), Walton, Harness, Al-Hamadi, Luongo, Tuanzebe, Johnson In: Downes, Kone (3rd choice striker), LB, CM, 1st choice striker, back up RB I think our starting 11 will be: Palmer Clarke - O’Shea (C) - Greaves - New New - Downes Philogene - Szmodics - Broadhead New ST Second 11: Slicker New RB - Wolf - Burgess - Townsend Morsy - Taylor Burns - Chaplin - Clarke Hirst Squad: Young GK, Ogbene, Kone, Humphries (if not loaned)

Depends on the player doesn’t it. If this release clause exists, and Liverpool were to trigger it, I don’t think Bournemouth offering an extra 10 mill will sway the player’s decision as to where to go

Delap and Hutchinson are the ones that will go , not sure Davis is a certainty to attract Premier teams now . The big question for Town to consider is do we sign players for the Championship who would hopefully improve in time , or do we sign players already fit for Premier . Signing the likes of Clarke and Philogene was not good enough for this season at the top level . To compete in the Premiership , we need physically stronger , quicker players and we definitely should be looking to sign players from abroad . Looking at the 2 teams yesterday , we looked nowhere near the level required in the premiership , whereas Wolves were full of imported talent , we still looked like a Championship team .
Next season signings on 11:27 - Apr 6 with 842 views | Axeldalai_lama | I realise it's football manager style, but there must be a world where we spend about £10 million each on 3 new players over the summer, a striker and two centre mids to run the show. And in true football manager style I've no idea who, but that level of player added to the current squad would make us formidable. Any other outs we can be like for like, we've seemingly got cover at the back and on the wings, maybe we lose Davis and Hutchinson, but barring a complete clear out we go again in a good position to bounce back.

A buyout clause has been spoken about since we bought him - it was mentioned by a credible source when the transfer was completed. The rumour of a release clause is new, and was started by the Daily Mail last week. You can decide for yourself the credibility of that It's not unreasonable to expect there to be some relegation release clauses in contracts though, in the same way that we will most likely have clauses that reduce wages on relegation. It goes both ways.
