Another 700+ today 19:03 - Apr 15 with 33198 views | bluejacko | Whatever your view on this crisis it is NOT sustainable! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cddezjy97vro So much for the smash the gangs approach,Rwanda was not by any means perfect but it had migrants here in NI going down south to get away from it in such numbers that the Irish police actually started doing checks at the border!

"As at 17 December 2024, 267,200 visas had been issued to Ukrainian refugees, who came through legal routes set up by the UK government." And nobody bats an eyelid. Why? Surely they are as much a burden on public services as the brown people.

Thanks for sharing that. The data is interesting, almost no returns at all prior to 2022 and then in 2024 there were around 2k people returned, which is almost half the total from the whole of 2018-2024. That does suggest the ridiculous backlog that the Tories oversaw has contributed to the poor return rate and the rate of return is now picking up. [Post edited 20 Apr 12:30]

For what it’s worth I don’t think it’s particularly the back log at play here as such and more to do with the governments 2022 agreement with Albania, the timelines and the data match this if you take a look. The returns are disproportionately Albanian nationals. Of the 3% returned of the total arrivals between 2018-2024, it looks like 84% in 2024 and 87% in 2023 were Albanian thus others nationalities arriving by boat that returned is in the hundreds in a 6 year period.

If you look at the nationalities that make up the small boat arrivals, take out the Albanians and the vast majority likely have a legitimate asylum claim.

Or perhaps it’s because they are mostly women and children. I don’t think males between the ages of 18 - 60 are even allowed to leave Ukraine. Of course you probably know this but it doesn’t fit your agenda.

Strange because I know of plenty of Ukranian men who have moved to Norway, since the Russian invasion. One of them I know personally, others I have dealt with at work. So no, I didn't know that. The main gripe about immigration is that public services can't cope, and the cost to the tax payer. The sex, age and nationality of the immigrants is pretty irrelevant to that. What exactly is 'my agenda'? [Post edited 21 Apr 10:48]

I’m old fashioned and even these days I’m confident my values remain consistent with most people. Women and children first! ….and in any case, they are seeking refuge and are likely to go back if and when the war is over. Actually, I think they only have three year visas - which can be extended while the conflict remains. [Post edited 21 Apr 11:36]
