Delao to Arsenal ? on 21:05 - May 7 with 5620 views | J2BLUE | I'm sure they are. I've been saying for ages he's the ideal #2 striker. I still think City might change their minds on signing him back. If his agent hasn't been contacted by at least 8 clubs in the top half of the Prem I would be amazed.

So, he has a release clause of £30m Why do people think it stops at £30m? Could it go up and up or is the idea it's £30m and he chooses where to go with a massive signing on fee?

I know there's many reasons why but only getting £30m for him is ridiculous. It feels like banter era that we have a player who is widely desired yet can't start a bidding war over him.

Basically 10 clubs could bid £30mill and he’d have to pick one. Can’t have a bidding war with that release clause in there. Doubt anyone will pay more than they have to.

Surely any bid £30m or more will have to be accepted. So bidding more surely has no advantage? or am i missing something?

That's why they're all clamouring after him. It's dirt cheap. It's not a good deal for Town, given what the going rate is for a PL striker is it.

But what if 10 teams bit £30m, why cant the £30m just act as a reserve and it keeps moving north?

Delap to Arsenal ? on 22:11 - May 7 with 4660 views | Daninthecampo | Obviously don't want him to leave but if he does I would love to see him at Arsenal( yes a few stupid fans) but a great club, play good football and he could do really well there, so much better than joining Chelsea/ united etc Arsenal have some great youth players who could certainly help us on loan next season

If he goes, hopefully we have a sell-on clause, in which case I'd rather he goes to Forest, Villa or even Everton...if he is successful, then there is more chance he moves to a big club for a much bigger fee and we benefit.

huh?? So if you are buying a player who has a 30 million release clause which has been accepted (as it has to because it is a release clause) - you would then go in and offer over the release clause, despite only needing to offer the 30 million. What sense is there in that?

It will be 30 million but Delap will get the deal that suits him wages and game time.

Think of it as a reserve price like on Ebay. If three clubs are bidding, why can't they continue to outbid each other?

Because this isn't eBay. It isn't an open auction. I'd love you to be right, but I think the case is we have to accept every offer of £30m, so why would any club pointlessly give money to us which could go to increase Delap's contract offer?

Unlike eBay though, it wouldn't just be the highest bid that won. All 30m bids would have to be accepted, so there's literally no advantage in bidding more.

Normal release clauses don't operate by eBay rules sadly. We shouldn't have the option to favour higher bids. So it's the player that clubs need to persuade, once they've met the fee due to us, and this is where extra money will be spent.

Its a Buy It Now for the 30m set price. He just gets the best personal terms or the club he fancies the most to better his career.
