First night of the Play Offs tonight… on 20:55 - May 8 by iamatractorboy | I'm at a loss how people can't see this. It's a clear red and pen all night long. |
Personally think yellow and a pen. He is desperately battling to get back and hook a leg at the ball (which he touched). I think pen is the right call but he is clearly trying to play the ball and does get a foot to it but there is too much contact impeding Moore in the process. You can argue the red but yellow would have been perfectly proportionate and not ruined a tie. The whole reason the brought in the 'genuine attempt to play the ball' to avoid the double punishment and ruining of games. (Understand your position is like other poster saying clear pull back but he's just battling to try and play the ball and pen is right call).

But the hook with the leg only comes after the foul has already been committed, i.e. pulling Moore on both shoulders, which is not a genuine attempt to play the ball. So the red is correct.

First night of the Play Offs tonight… on 20:54 - May 8 by MattinLondon | He grabbed hold of the attacker and as a consequence pulled him down. Last man, denied a goal scoring opportunity. Clear red card. |
I thought there was a double jeopardy rule or something where it can’t be a penalty and a red? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Read the guidance. It’s not an attempt to get the ball and DOGSO, so a red. It’s clear cut within the current rules framework.

I agree as to why it is still a pen for sure and touching the ball doesn't get him out of it. But the hands and diving tackle is all part of his genuine attempt to get the ball. When you are tackling at close quarters there is always a lot of physical contact and arms etc. he's overdone it and a pen but his thought process is obviously all about getting the ball. It's totally over the top to give a red given the penalty is given. It is as I say exactly why they bought in the 'double jeapardy" type rule. Most cases the defender is trying to get the ball TBF and that ticked the boxes for me. Where it's an obvious clip from behind and not going for the ball fair enough.

Brizzle are toast. Not surprised. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Sunderland tonight. My two buddies I was with yesterday in York are Mackems and finishing ahead of Cov, they deserve a trip to Wembley.

Sending a message that there is still work to do in the second leg, I would assume.
