£ from Wardley and Sheeran Events 10:29 - May 9 with 1751 views | kizaitfc | Given we do not own Portman Road, does anyone know how the financials of these events will work out for the club? Potentially very lucrative, but just wondering if not owning the venue has a significant impact and if so why aren't the ownership group looking to buy the ground and the surrounding areas (I know they have bought a fair chunk of the land).

£ from Wardley and Sheeran Events on 10:30 - May 9 with 1750 views | PhilTWTD | The club does own Portman Road, the venue, just not the land it's built on. It pays a lease on the land which IBC has repeatedly said isn't going to be up for sale, indeed Marcus Evans tried to buy it.

Ahhhhh, so my concerns are unfounded, as you were!

£ from Wardley and Sheeran Events on 10:40 - May 9 with 1645 views | textbackup | If you consider 30k (??) people per Ed show, average ticket cost £120(??) That’s £10,800,000 The boxing, 15k(??) at £85 average ticket cost (??) £1,120,000 I’ve no idea on what the club will take from those. But the fighters won’t be it for free, neither will old Ed. I’d guess around £500-700k? Might be miles off [Post edited 9 May 10:41]

In retrospect, I think it's a good thing the council refused to let ME buy it. There was a club I seem to recall where the owners sold the ground to developers. Can't remember the club but I wouldn't have put it past ME to pull a similar move!

£10 a head would be nice, especially if Ed adds a 4th show. Should also do well from food concessions in the fan zone and income from bars should add a few quid. Not forgetting shirt sales.

Would imagine the figure is fairly accurate. They normally do a fee for stadium at concerts/boxing up front, Wembley is around £400k-£500k I think for boxing last time I heard. Would imagine we’d split food and beverage. All in think £500k-£750k for the 4 events is pretty accurate tbf. [Post edited 9 May 11:40]

You're probably thinking of Brighton but there have probably been others. I'm not sure there was too much danger as the land on which the aquatics centre is going to be built had been available for a couple of decades without it being seen as an area prime for redevelopment.

You think there’ll be 15k for the boxing? Seems high

That was Brighton. They were left homeless and playing at Gillingham from 97-99, before returning to play at the athletics stadium for 12 years.
£ from Wardley and Sheeran Events on 11:59 - May 9 with 1262 views | JakeITFC | I reckon they've paid a venue fee per night and then we get a share of food and drinks (and possibly merch). Given the performers are local I doubt we've been that bothered about the explicit financial benefit of each night seeing as it's just a good thing to do to boost exposure etc.

Believe that’s right and the venue fee is small.

Indeed the guy in question was Bill Archer. A few of my friends are Albion fans who were involved in a fanzine that exposed what he was trying to do but couldn't stop him. Some very interesting and also very scary times for the club.

There will also be potential profits from sponsorship around the group, particularly as I assume Wardley will be televised.

£ from Wardley and Sheeran Events on 16:17 - May 9 with 741 views | The_Major | I seem to recall reading that the reason IBC (who, or at least whatever was around prior to the stadium being built) owned that land was because it was the town refuse tip in times of old (Brace for inevitable joke), and became available when they moved the tip to what is now Landseer Park. IBC then agreed a 999 year lease with ITFC in about 1965. Mind you, this was in The Men Who Made The Town, which is a 40 year old book itself, so some aspects of the lease could well have changed. I think there was a stage that the council tried to change the terms of the lease and were told they could not. It is a very low rent. It seems a very safe arrangement. If an individual had bought the ground they would have the potential to cause the club problems unless it was very clear that they took on the full terms of the lease with no get-out clause at all.

For the boxing, they’ve sold between 11 and 12k.
