War Crimes and Gaza Starvation 08:30 - May 11 with 1618 views | Churchman | An interesting article in the Irish Times. It starts by saying basically that starvation is now a weapon. What next? Hitler’s ’Hunger Plan’ (the aim was to dispose of about 30m people. The actual figure who died from this disgusting atrocity isn’t known. 10m?)? Because it looks like a small scale version of it to me. https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2025/05/11/gazans-now-eat-one-meal-every-two- The article basically says for what they are doing, Putin, Netanyahu and Trump should be held accountable for war crimes. I don’t know the political leanings of this publication, but thought it made interesting points. Of course all three countries are authoritarian or a dictatorship and they feel the right to write the narrative and do as they please. I disagree. To use Churchill’s words, whatever the cost. I noticed Starmer, Mertz, Macron, Tusk met VZ yesterday. It’s important they quietly form a binding alliance as collectively they carry weight. The drift towards what we are seeing with the dictators and friends has to be resisted in my opinion. Worth a read to those interested.

Really? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0qgz18glljo The term habeas corpus is one of the most significant concepts in legal history, safeguarding individual freedom against unlawful detention. Derived from Latin, habeas corpus means “you shall have the body.” It refers to a legal writ or order that requires authorities to justify the detention of an individual before a court. Rooted in centuries-old legal traditions, this principle ensures that no person can be imprisoned without cause. This article explores the meaning, origins, and importance of habeas corpus, along with its application in modern legal systems.

So many of them, across all parties, are registered as friends of Israel. They accept funded trips etc. So few of them stand up and denounce the Israeli actions. We all accept news reports describing the exchange of Israeli hostages, held by terrorist Hamas, for Palestinian prisoners (men, women and children picked up and held without trial) by Israel. It seems to me that both groups are held as hostages. The difference being that Israel holds almost 10,000, yes ten thousand Palestinians prisoners. Israel gets away with war crime after war crime while so many of our MPs say nothing and do nothing. [Post edited 11 May 12:40]

As of April 2025, Israel is holding approximately 9,900 Palestinian prisoners, according to Addameer, a Palestinian prisoners’ rights organization . Additionally, reports indicate that thousands of Palestinians from Gaza have been detained in Israeli military camps amid ongoing hostilities, with many cases involving enforced disappearances . The number of Palestinian detainees has significantly increased since October 2023, with over 15,700 arrests reported in the West Bank and Jerusalem up to April 2025 .

War Crimes and Gaza Starvation on 15:47 - May 11 with 958 views | Kropotkin123 | On the Starmer, Merz, Macron, and Tusk quietly forming an alliance: I wonder how much is the people and how vulnerable to change this is. We saw Scholz were weak towards Russia. While Mertz has been stronger in rhetoric we are yet to see substance. He seems to have held of on Taurus missiles, something he was seemingly guaranteeing he'd send during the election. Early days, I know. But I don't think there has been a seismic shift in the German population, things could turn around at the next election. With Tusk, he took over and is reversing the previous governments attempt to curtail democracy - forcing out judges and electing sympathetic ones, limiting media, suppressing dissent, and pressures on the electoral system. They were hand in hand with Hungary until the Russians invaded Ukraine. Tusk has tried to reverse main things, leading to the EU unfreezing funds, but the fact that it got to that point and that Tusk still faces challenges means that Poland is dependent on people for alliances like this. Then Macron doesn't always seem serious about working with the UK. Seeking to make France the sole economic beneficiary of military integration, and leveraging the situation to exclude the UK as it is not part of the EU highlights another weakness. What if the next person doubles down on this. So it is good, but the vulnerability is scary.

Done a bit of research on this. Seems to mostly be 5/6 non citizens being harassed. Again deplorable and hopefully if court proceedings are filed against this they are successful as appears to be the legal substance. My original challenge against the US being a widespread authoritarian regime probably stands. However, it is perhaps inching and eroding back from being a true home for free speech and expression.

Quite. With their attacks on free speech, political opponent, immigrants, the courts and the constitution in general, they’re the very definition of authoritarian. They could be worse as there are still some checks and balances, but as DJR pointed out they’re looking to remove those checks.

When Trump was questioned about upholding the Constitution, he hardly gave it an ‘I’ll defend it to my last breath’ endorsement. Dictators and Authoritarians know they are right. Because they are always right any opposition is traitorous. What do you do with such opposition? Go after them any way you can. Every regime of that type in history has done it. Putin, Stalin, Mussolini, Adolf, you name it. Rule number one. With Trump, he’s in the ball park. He’s never wrong and the opposition are to use his words ‘criminals’. He won’t have them killed because he’s not a Dictator (yet), but he will do everything he can to muzzle them; make them go away. [Post edited 12 May 6:26]

No. It doesnt stand. They are imprisoning people without trial and threatening to suspend the fundamental premise that someone arrested has a right to be heard by a court, unless the courts start making "the right decisions". Blatant.

That’s 5/6 you’ve heard about. I would like to bet on them being the only ones. As for free speech, we might not be at the denouncing neighbours and relations yet, but we are at the stage where anything but praise for the dear leader is fake news or words from criminals. Even media that is not for the man is being targeted as un American etc. I believe it is moving rapidly to an authoritarian state. What is coming out of that country is surreal and the only checks and balances are the number of lawsuits being filed (he’s going after non-Trump lawyers etc) and the Markets. War Crimes and Gaza Starvation on 21:34 - May 12 with 313 views | DJR | Interesting development indicating a rift between Trump and Netanyahu. Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff didn’t mince his words. In a meeting late on Sunday with former hostages and relatives of those still held in Gaza, he told them Israel is drawing out a war the US wants to end, local media reported. On the eve of the release of Edan Alexander, the last living American being held by Hamas, Witkoff spelt out the gulf between his boss and the government of Benjamin Netanyahu. According to Channel 12 Television, quoting sources who were present, Witkoff told the meeting: We want to bring the hostages home, but Israel is not willing to end the war. Israel is prolonging it – despite the fact that we don’t see where else we can go and that an agreement must be reached. It was the latest in a series of high-profile and high-stakes snubs from the White House which suggest that Israel’s most important ally is frustrated with its government – and possibly losing interest in its fortunes. “Trump’s not against Israel, but he doesn’t care about Israel,” said Alon Pinkas, a former Israeli diplomat. As far as Trump is concerned, Netanyahu has become an irritant and an irritant that doesn’t contribute to the bank account.

Yes. You've ridiculously proved my point. A functioning autocracy would not have to worry about the courts ruling against them as there is no separation between the state and judiciary. Your article states that it's down to the courts to opine on this. Ie a legitimate check/balance against a freely elected government.
