I don’t know the political leanings of this publication, but thought it made interesting points. Of course all three countries are authoritarian or a dictatorship and they feel the right to write the narrative and do as they please. I disagree. To use Churchill’s words, whatever the cost.

It seems to me that both groups are held as hostages. The difference being that Israel holds almost 10,000, yes ten thousand Palestinians prisoners.

I wonder how much is the people and how vulnerable to change this is. We saw Scholz were weak towards Russia. While Mertz has been stronger in rhetoric we are yet to see substance. He seems to have held of on Taurus missiles, something he was seemingly guaranteeing he'd send during the election. Early days, I know. But I don't think there has been a seismic shift in the German population, things could turn around at the next election.
With Tusk, he took over and is reversing the previous governments attempt to curtail democracy - forcing out judges and electing sympathetic ones, limiting media, suppressing dissent, and pressures on the electoral system. They were hand in hand with Hungary until the Russians invaded Ukraine. Tusk has tried to reverse main things, leading to the EU unfreezing funds, but the fact that it got to that point and that Tusk still faces challenges means that Poland is dependent on people for alliances like this.
Then Macron doesn't always seem serious about working with the UK. Seeking to make France the sole economic beneficiary of military integration, and leveraging the situation to exclude the UK as it is not part of the EU highlights another weakness. What if the next person doubles down on this.

When Trump was questioned about upholding the Constitution, he hardly gave it an ‘I’ll defend it to my last breath’ endorsement.
Dictators and Authoritarians know they are right. Because they are always right any opposition is traitorous. What do you do with such opposition? Go after them any way you can. Every regime of that type in history has done it. Putin, Stalin, Mussolini, Adolf, you name it. Rule number one.

As for free speech, we might not be at the denouncing neighbours and relations yet, but we are at the stage where anything but praise for the dear leader is fake news or words from criminals. Even media that is not for the man is being targeted as un American etc.
I believe it is moving rapidly to an authoritarian state. What is coming out of that country is surreal and the only checks and balances are the number of lawsuits being filed (he’s going after non-Trump lawyers etc) and the Markets. [Post edited 12 May 8:30]
