Lots of Tw@tter-based talk that it's already a done deal and he'll be with us next year?

I'm not a paid up member of Jens fanclub, is he robust enough to do that job in the championship and, I'll leave myself wide open here, is he *that* good we want to blow a substantial chunk of a limited budget on him?

Old-man Prowse is only 30...

Wouldn't be surprised if we looked at him as an option for next year.

Saints may think that too

I have seen lots of talk about Cajuste staying also and someone said that on Sunday, he was saying that he is staying (maybe when people were trying to say goodbye to him?). He seems to like it here It seems as though he has been to many different clubs and definitely likes the fact that he knows the language here!

I wouldn't be surprised if he comes here permanently. He may have had enough of keep moving round and likes it here, so doesn't mind about being in the Championship.

I personally think he will be a brilliant signing if we can get him.

Where has this "fitness issue" come from? Yes he doesn't finish the game usually, but nor do half the outfield players normally.
He's played in 30 of the 38 league games, playing the 7th highest minutes this season. We have a load of other players who are out injured a lot more than him. Someone like Phillips has "fitness issues".
Having said that, we should have a squad strong enough to rotate his position if needed.

Secondly he gets beat with the "not enough goals/assist" stick, when other more attacking players have hardly set the world alight. Clearly in the Championship he's going to get more opportunities for that.

My view of the "fitness issue" isn't about missing game time but not being particularly good at getting up and down the pitch throughout a game. Whether that's because of not being fully fit, who knows. Superb on the ball though.

I think working up a (nominal) 3 midfielders based setup in the Championship would be a really good idea and stand us in good stead for going up again and not being overrun in the middle. How precisely KMc would implement that is above my pay grade, but I can imagine players like Taylor (or similar) and Cajuste working well with a more dedicated defensive third man, Morsy or similar.

Not sure Taylor can be the man who breaks forward from there to form a 4-2-3-1 in attack or not (although I thought he was quietly improving towards the end of the season), but I can see that tweak working well for us at Championship and Premier League level, particularly with Davis bombing on down the left.

QED football being a game of opinions I thought Taylor completely regressed towards the end of the season. Obviously it wouldn't have helped not having a consistent run in the team, so that's mitigating, but I'm no longer part of the JTFC as I was probably until about February of this year. Next season is massive for him, I hope he finds the form that made me such a fan.

He's not good enough for a top end Championship team. I know there is going to be plenty of churn in CM anyway but I like to think he is one we look to upgrade in the summer. If we could get what we paid for him back, I would sell him.

Apologies if it's been said already but isn't the injury narrative a little over stated? He was subbed off a lot after 75 the first half the season, which wasn't a massive surprise as he was clearly dealing with something and building back up. Has he not played quite a few 90 minutes second half of the season?

He has also been available a lot more than many other senior players.

Even at 10M and a patchy fitness record, as a player already bedded in and one of our better PL performers, we should snap him up if he wants to stay. Take it over a new 6 to 8M signing that may or may not work out.

I'd be much more confident of a quick PL rebound with him in the team.

I guess we don’t know how he is from match to match, if he trains normally I don’t thinks it’s an issue, but if he is mostly unable to train fully during the week that’s not great.

Not sure what the issue is but he does look a class above the championship, so fingers crossed but personally I can’t see it happening.

The only Muff in Town.

It's insane. He's produced some unbelievable performances this season. Has such quality allied with real athleticism.

Why is there never any room for nuance on here? I've never said he's not a good player, just questioned whether he's best-suited for our system.

Where has this fitness issue come from? It's medically known. He failed a medical with Brentford and we signed him despite a known issue with his knee which we've managed throughout the season. McKenna has acknowledged it and spoken about it many times and it hasn't been ideal. He has had to manage his training minutes and game time and he hasn't been firing on all cylinders at times. McKenna spoke about it being managed a bit better 2nd half of season.

Reality is he hasn't been fit enough to play 90 mins with it most of the time and has missed games. The concern from people is rightly how that will translate in a 46 game champ season. You will naturally lose continuity as he will likely not do Sat/Tuesday.

For me it's about the price and wages. Because quality wise he is brilliant. If there is a good chance the injury isn't chronic and expected to be better next season then even better. Otherwise there needs to be very good price. His injury situation is really the main reason we have a chance. Cajuste with no injury question mark gets a top league contract no problem.

IF we get two more quality midfielders in addition I'm all for this still.

He still managed the 6th highest starts and 6th highest minutes played out of the squad this season so it's been managed quite well.

One of his spells out was also for a minor ankle issue I believe so not everything has been down to his knee.

It would be a great signing for us. A lot had been made of his ability to play a 46 game season but if he played 70 minutes in 30 games he’d still be great value. I’m not convinced our budget will be that limited and if it is I’d much prefer £10m on Cajuste than the £15m+ that Downes would apparently cost. I’d pick Cajuste over Downs even if Downes was half the cost of Cajuste.

As part of the deal agreed with Napoli, weren’t we obliged to buy him for between €11.5 to €13.5 million if town remained in the PL. Obviously as town were relegated then there is no obligation to buy now, however it appears from McK’s comments that we are still interested but the deal is more difficult. Potential to take him on loan with a view to buy if promoted to PL again?

He looked pretty classy at times in our team, and I’m a big fan of his. But I’m not sure I’d describe any of his performances as ‘unbelievable’. Sorry! I can’t think of a single match that he has driven us forward and won us the game.

What we could really do with is keeping him and getting a couple of similar quality players alongside him. Then we’d have a midfield!

He's been our standout midfielder. Lots of what he does isn't always as eye catching as goals or assists but in terms of reading play, winning the ball and breaking lines with the close control and physicality he has, he's been really impressive.

Spurs away he was our best player by a mile.

I agree with the need for a few more around him as much as I think Super Sammy will produce again next season.

I would love to see Downes back.
