His time here has been disappointing but that has been as harmful to his own career as it has been to us. I bear him no ill will and I am sure he means his heartfelt goodbye. I hope he has gained some allegiance to the club in his time here but I doubt many Town fans have grown any love for him. All a bit sad really.

Yep. We clearly put a few chips on him last summer in the hope he could find anything close to the sort of form that made him an England regular, but it rarely threatened to happen. I still think he showed glimpses of it at times but they were few and far between and injuries ultimately got the better of him. That’s not through any fault of his own and I dare say he’s as disappointed at how this season unfolded as anyone else.

Not sure where he goes from here though, perhaps a Leeds move might materialise given his background but that looks about the only chance of playing premier league football next season.

Think he’s been ok, not bad but for the wages we needed him to be good to very good and that still probably wouldn’t have been enough.

I understood the gamble. At the time I thought it might be inspired. It might have paid off, but it didn’t sadly. Not for the want of trying. There’s no time or mercy in the Premier League and he received neither.

Should the club have done better in recognised what he had to offer? Only they can answer that. Desperately disappointing for him, the club and us.

Certainly he wanted this season to go better for himself personally, and has no doubt missed an opportunity to re-establish himself.

When he played, you could see aspects of his old game, but he never quite came out of his shell and not sure whether that was down to injury/confidence or bit of both (lack of it rather).

I wish him well, I don't think it was lack of trying on his part, just never quite happened.

Regardless of how you think his loan has turned out(personally, I don't think you could call it anything other than 'disappointing for all parties involved') he's shown a bit of class here.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

I thought he was well liked, certainly in my little bit of the NS. Shame it never really got going, although there were signs of how good a player he obviously is and I think the main problem was fitness, rather than confidence or ability. He’s obviously a nice guy as well, even if he has a bit of bite when he plays.

The central midfield struggled a lot this year. A fit Phillips with a proper run of games and a fit, able to play 90m regularly Cajuste would have been our best partnership. I’m sure that’s what the plan was.

I think it was a gamble worth taking. A Phillips from his Leeds time would have made a huge difference. Ironically, I think he will go back to Leeds next season

Please allow to be a bit more blunt...

I was super excited to have Kalvin join us, really thought it was us attacking the EPL.

However it just didn't happen, whether is be from wrongful sending off, injuries or overall..mentality or gelling I just never saw enough from KP on the pitch imho.

Unfortunately another addition to the Loanees for us who just didn't move the needle. I wish him all the best for the future and is clearly a super talented player... If KP had been on top of his game that could have gone a long way to solving our midfield issues, sorry Sammy.

But going forward we need better...

Perhaps Liam Delap should take a few hints from Kalvin Phillips as he went from Leeds to the bright lights of Man City and whilst I fully understand any player going from a £30,000 a week contract to one of around £150,000 a players career can quickly go downhill if he doesn't perform on the big stage.
As for Phillips time at Town it has to be said he has been a very expensive failure.
Not perhaps all his own fault, but it proves that whilst you can never be 100% sure on any player you sign or take on loan Phillips would in my opinion have had to be pretty special at £150,000 a week of which Town would probably have been paying £75,000.
We will go into next season needing a complete rebuild of our midfield as Taylor isn't good enough and Morsy won't play every game so it is vital that we get the right players in who aren't passenger for a majority of the season.

If Delap goes to Chelsea they will give him a 9 year contract - so that will ease the risk somewhat.

99 year leasehold. Def info!

It’s nuts that clubs can get away with those sort of contracts. A crazy financial commitment from the club and also an obvious PSR loophole.

It's no different for PSR, as amortisation is capped at 5 years.

different situation really. Phillips was 25 or 26 and an established Premier and England international. A move to a good Prem side like Man City was a logical next step. It had more chance of immediate success than Delap, who has more upside potential but who is still young and quite raw. Everybody knew that Phillips was a punt. If it had been successful and he regained his Leeds form, we could have benefitted a lot. It was judged worth the risk at the time. As you say having 2 loans, 2 aging players and one ineffectual back-up has left us very short, 12 months on and is frankly a bit of a balls up.

Cost us about 9 points in the first quarter of the season, and was just about average the rest of it.

Hope Leeds sign him and he does the same.

Lots of people say we didn't bring in Premier League quality players. Then people moan how much we spent on Phillips wages. Can't really have it both ways.

I'm gutted it didn't work out - I think he's got class and a good run could have made a big difference to us this year.
