We surely wouldn’t let him go unless we get two in.

Can't see it. Money is like water to the Saudi state owned clubs. Why would we let him go on a free when they could pay a couple of million minimum very easily.

The only way this could be true IMO is if he has asked to go and McKenna thinks his legs have gone.

Truly impaired.

Morsy could easily play another championship season and be one of the best midfielders in the league.

Be gutted if he goes.

Could be 4 at this rate as I think Taylor will go to personally.

If true, which is 50/50, it will raise serious concerns about our decision making when it comes to transfer income.

It's mind boggling that we wouldn't get a fee for him.

Surely we can't just be saying "You been great for us, so we will let you go for nothing out of respect"

Wait and see I guess.

Who’s going to pay for a 33 year old on the sort of contract he will be on? People go on about the Saudis, but they’re not shelling out big money for players who have spent most of their careers in the Championship and below.

I will be gutted if he went, devastated almost. But I can definitely see a parting of the ways in the way of free transfer.

With Sam, it is not about a loss of his playing ability, that is relatively easy to replace.

Replacing his leadership qualities, is much much harder, but totally essential as one thing I think we lacked this season is enough leaders, who, when we were behind were prepared to stick their necks out and say "we are not having this"

For Sammy to go back up with us and then head East would be completely perfect end.

Would be the wrong decision, in my opinion. He’s very rarely the best player on the pitch, but he’s led us to back-to-back promotions and been a constant in our team. Always available and you know you’re always going to get 100% from him.

The best captain we’ve had in decades.

It would be a bold move getting relegated, losing your best player(s) and also your club captain in one window.

Totally agree, although I’ve felt that I think we’d do more brave and bold business this summer, than what we did last year - and this would be right up there.

It seems like it could be him who wants to leave as it says 'The Egypt international, who has made over 150 appearances for Ipswich, is keen to explore opportunities in the Middle East.' 'Clubs in the Middle East are understood to be monitoring the situation, with Morsy’s experience and pedigree making him an attractive prospect.'

Never rated him.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I had heard a month or so ago that he was looking for the move, and I guess nobody can begrudge him for wanting what would presumably be a longer contract on more money.

I will be absolutely gutted if it happens though. Honestly, what a captain.

Likewise but didn’t believe it at the time.

The number of CMs I’ve heard proper links to would suggest it’s probably true, too. Not sure how they’d fit in a squad with him

Wouldn’t surprise me. I think a change of scenery and fresh start might be attractive for other reasons as well.

Would be very hard to see him leave, very much typified the ascent under McKenna and been a fantastic captain. From a recruitment perspective I’m not sure it changes a great deal, we’ll be looking for 2 starting CM’s this window anyway but his presence and leadership in the ‘group’ would be hard to replace.

Other reasons being something specific you’re aware of, or just a turn of phrase?

I’d say specific, but not one for here. I could well believe a fresh start might be appealing.

Will be hard as a supporter to see him leave whenever that time comes, I’m hoping he does 1 more year and helps us get back up.

Not saying there’s no truth, but he’s just done a bumper interview about next season with EADT.

Yes I know he can do that interview and still go though…

No, me either to be honest.

I saw Harrison Reed’s name mentioned the other evening, any other names? I guess we’re pushing quite hard for Cajuste too.

The top priority this summer is the two in the 4231. Whilst there’s no doubt Morsy could do another championship season I think he’d be on the wane by the end of it at least. Seems like the sort of deal that would suit him if it happens and we need youth in those positions now.
