O'Shea: I'm Fully Committed to Town at the Moment 12:27 - Jun 9 with 1902 viewsSuffolkPunchFC

Cue the forum splitting into 2, on yet another news piece :

O'Shea: I'm Fully Committed to Town at the Moment 9th Jun 2025 11:44
Central defender Dara O’Shea says he’s “fully committed to Ipswich at the moment” and wants to get the Blues back into the Premier League, the Republic of Ireland international having been linked with Wolves, Leeds United and a return to Burnley this summer. 52

"I’m ambitious as a player, obviously I want to be playing in the Premier League"
"I feel like I’m well capable of playing in the Premier League and I’ve got to get myself back there now."
"...at the moment..."

O'Shea's leaving then.

"I want to get the club back into the Premier League"
"...fully committed to Ipswich..."

O'Shea's here for next season then.

You could either chill, and not try to read too much into this (and every story) or choose a careful selection of out-of-context snippets that fit your preferred agenda

Not that you're trying to stir at all. on 12:51 - Jun 9 with 1764 viewsMarshalls_Mullet

Best to just ignore all speculation until it becomes fact.

I wouldn't blame any player (or manager) for choosing to join a Premier League club.

Very carefully chosen wording. I imagine he’ll go.

As I posted on the news item, "fully" committed to Ipswich "at the moment" is an oxymoron.

Quite. Carefully constructed response (no doubt with his agent's help).

Very loose terminology which basically says 'I want out if the opportunity arises'.

Apparently the "at the moment" comment was accompanied by a wink and gesturing his nose growing like Pinocchio towards the journo from the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Exactly. Not sure why people are getting downvoted. He’s clearly hedging his bets - and that’s fine.

An answer that says nothing.
I'm sure many of us are fully committed to our current jobs, but if a better offer comes in...

Whilst he said that he was fully committed in truth can he really say anything different ?
I thought he strongly indicated he wanted the Captain armband as well.
From a Town point of view whilst we can't stop speculation we do need to be careful that given several have already departed for various reasons we don't end up having to build a new team.
We saw this in the Premier League. Whereas a majority of the League One players were carried forward to the Championship.

I try to look at it from the player's perspective and compare to a non footballing job, and am assuming that he has a relegation salary adjustment in his contract, but hopefully the club will have performance bonuses based on promotion.

If my current employer was lowering my weekly salary, asking me to do more work (46 games vs 38), but working with a lower set of clients/customers (EFL vs EPL opponents and coverage) - I would probably be tempted to move to an employer who could offer me more - especially noting that my earning power only runs for the next 8-10 years . . .

I hope he stays, but he was one of the better performers last season and so other clubs will be sniffing around. It just depends on him, but this is his livelihood and he has to put himself and his family first.

Absolutely this but there comes a time when moving from club to club gets a little tedious and that pattern will be noticed at some point and buyers will look elsewhere

That said someone did mention the other week there are teams such as Leicester , Southampton , Leeds etc and hopefully us that are / will bounce from Champ to Prem etc along with varying players as individuals

It’s a funny old game

Difference is all these players are either millionaires or, all but, millionaires, so the line," it's a short career", cuts little ice with me now I'm afraid.

The "at the moment" isn't really needed though is it?

TO be honest, he's not likely to go anywhere other than another relegation threatened team.

Personally I don't think he's as great as some think.

But it is a short career, so you need to make the most of it in terms of both your ability to earn and playing at as high a level as possible.
