Really, his positional play is all over the place, he has the turning circle of a battleship and for a big guy he loses duels too easily and his heading is average at best.

Last time he was in the championship he was the best centre back in the league, by a fair margin for my money. After 5 games this season our fans were hailing it as a genius piece of business to sign him and that we had pulled Hulls pants down with the fee. He got injured came back in and struggled to get to grips with the division, a long with the rest of team, Burgess included btw who had shaky games like everyone else.

Some of the comments about our young players who made the step up to the Premier league for the first time on here are genuinely mind numbing. Where has our patience and perspective gone. Dont forget how bad Burgess was in his first season.

Totally agree, the over-obsession by McK on certain players like Ioannidis, Broja, Downes, Philogene and Latte Lath last season has resulted in us failing to sign anyone fit for purpose. We can't have last minute desperate signings like Ben Godfrey this time, what a joke that was.

Next season is imperative to hit the ground running, not waiting for more last minute signings to "gel" and lose ground. Pre-season is also important to get players up to speed, look what a disjointed team brought us last season.

If we lose Tuanzebe as well then we need at least 5-6 signings at the back, CM and a 9 to replace Delap at the very least. I can't see where these players are coming from.

There is literally zero evidence McKenna was overly obsessed with any of thd players you have listed

I can really add to what’s been said.

Greaves is the future. I looked up our last championship season, we conceded a similar number of goals to Hull down in eighth. Greaves will have been part of that and hopefully we are building a more athletic, stronger defensive unit this time around and with a similar combative pivot in front.

Greaves
New
Baggot

Baggott needs another season at L1 level. He wasn't a regular at Blackpool and had injury issues. Humphreys excelled at Wycombe and so deserves his chance at Championship level. Baggott... not for me. I think he needs another loan in L1 and it could be his last chance with us. If he doesn't nail down a spot and show improvement... maybe time to say goodbye.

We’ve been targeting a centre half from the Swiss Super League, but he’s got plenty of suitors from some top teams around Europe, so will be interesting to see if we could persuade him here.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

Lots of talk we are going to spend something like 80m this summer so….Nathan Ake.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Agreed, but might have written similar about Burgess in the early days, so hopefully he’ll come good in a similar way!

What a weird post.

McKenna has a history of successfully persisting until he gets his man (e.g. Hirst to name an obvious one), yet our fan(s) say he’s “over-obsessed”…!

Godfrey was such the desperate signing that he signed on the 4th January, 4 days after the transfer window opened.

Technically seemed out of position constantly last season hence the numerous heroic last ditch tackles he had to make.

Best tackler at the club.

Quality player.

RIP Sir Bobby

Greaves was fine imo, but its the classic thing about focussing on the outcomes of games of which we lost a few, therefore the defence & keeper get the blame for it, whilst the midfield and attack get a free pass.

there was one game he had a bit of a mare, got subbed at half time, but Burgess was just as bad 2nd half played, and yet Greaves got the whole pelters for us losing that even though he only played half the game.

This is a load of tosh, blud.

I expect we'll sign someone to compete with Greaves. We'll want to have two good options for every position as it's a long old season and we'll need a strong squad. Not to mention, we'll want solid foundations to build from if we do go back up. It won't be Baggott, talk of him stepping up is for the birds at this point. He didn't do enough last season, partly down to injury, to show he's close to being ready for the Championship.
