Controversial thread maybe 22:20 - Jul 1 with 1885 views | TractorWood | Any thoughts/advice on small touches or bigger stuff you've seen or done at weddings that have gone down really well or badly? E.g I mentioned a cake made of cheese (not a cheesecake) instead of a traditional cake the other day and a buddy said it's the worst idea in history as it will be a crumbly mess....

Controversial thread maybe on 22:31 - Jul 1 with 1473 views | Swansea_Blue | Yeah, don’t look for controversial small touches. It’s the bride’s (mainly) biggest day of her life to that point. And her family’s. Don’t screw it up by being a smart arse is my advice. Play it atraight down the middle. Bury the inner 12 year old and make it loving, endearing and relevant, but don’t make the cake out of bloody cheese for bantz 🤣

Tbh I'm a bit of a passenger as you imply. We are keeping the budget relatively tight so there is no scope for ice swans or contortionists. Really keen for any small touches that have worked well like keepsakes or centrepieces etc

Controversial thread maybe on 06:32 - Jul 2 with 1038 views | tcblue | I read about a couple who told all the attendees that, when they were ready to leave, to just go and not say goodbye to them. The reason for this was to help them have time together without having to do the (final) bit of socialing which the whole day is full of. That feels like an amazing idea. On our wedding day the person I spoke to least was my partner...

On my wedding day, the person I spoke to most was the former Norwich defender Dennis van Wijk. He'd just bought a house in Stradishall, and we played Whist all evening.

Controversial thread maybe on 07:26 - Jul 2 with 916 views | bluelagos | As I left my wedding reception many years ago, my mate grabbed a handful of confetti and shoved it down my underpants. He later told me the idea being that later that night when I undressed a load of confetti would come flying out, helping to set the mood. I completely forgot about it and fair to say the bloke p*ssing in the next urinal at the motorway service station got quite a surprise. True story.

Controversial thread maybe on 07:31 - Jul 2 with 888 views | bluelagos | Do people still do those photo thingys? Leave a disposable camera on each table and then you get to see all the photos through the night? Guess that was before the mobile phone (yes kids) but still really liked them.

And/or you can hire a photo booth with a bunch of fancy dress stuff for the evening. A bit tacky maybe, but it gives people something else to do and always seems popular (based on my massive experience of seeing one once).

I think people still do, but they're not cheap. About £15 each, and then you've got to pay for the photo developing. We had them at our wedding in 1999 and took them on our honeymoon to get them developed. We were so keen to see the pictures we dropped off about 6 of them at a photo processing shop in Boston on a one hour service. Cost a flippin' fortune but we spent a nice afternoon in a cafe looking through the pictures. One of the best things we did was give the DJ a playlist and tell him to stick to it or risk not getting paid.
Controversial thread maybe on 09:23 - Jul 2 with 634 views | Zx1988 | It may sound curmudgeonly, but remember that the day is for you and your wife-to-be, not anyone else. The wife and I didn't buy into the whole 'wedding favours' BS, on the basis that we were already paying for our friends and family to have a bloody good meal at our expense. Nobody got any special present for coming, and nobody decided they didn't want to be our friends as a result. I think some of the best advice we got was that although we may notice minor niggles etc., nobody else probably would.
