It's telling that Jackson is on the bench and Chelsea are playing without an out and out number nine. May be that Jackson is off and Chelsea have plenty of options for players supporting Delap. Average age of their players tonight is 24 so age is not going to be an issue for Maresca. Could be that João Pedro and Delap play together, it's not like it's always going to be one or the other as it would be with Jackson. Delap's going to get plenty of minutes, up to him to make the most of them.

He turned 22 early in the year as it happens; was born within a few days of Rasmus Hojlund. Given Delap's got the physical advantage on most around him already, I'd be a bit worried for his England future if he isn't good enough to continue developing in the top flight. Rooney was probably close to 200 appearances by that age. | | | |

I think at 22 he needs to be playing week in week out.
No, he didn’t improve second half of the season but the team behind him collapsed. He does though have a lot to learn. From positioning, when to make a run and when to pass the ball. He has so much going for him, but needs competitive games and at a decent, established Premier League club like a Brighton, Fulham or Brentford. |  | | |
